Psychonauts!

...uh, you're that far already? Use your Psychoportal on Boyd, the guard. He's bound to have an intresting mind...

Hasn't been released in PEDOPHILES?

That's crazy talk.

Irritating release woes. If I stumbled across it I'd definitely buy it, but Carlisle seems to lag behind other cities on the actually getting bloody stocked stakes.

Time to hunt for the demo, methinks...

The demo is okay, but it features the most boring level in the game though (the tutorial level) :)

Blah, now you tell me!

Nevermind, I'm sure it'll be enjoyable on its own terms. For the record- is it actually out in the UK yet?

I can really start to see the merits of something like Steam at moments like this...

EDIT: Urgh, I say. I really didn't like the art style- though it is well animated and pretty original- and the random use of cutscenes is really bloody stupid, especially when they appear to be lower quality than what my machine is capable of rendering. Talk about killing the mood.

The military-themed mind level seemed pretty imaginative, but platformers aren't really my style- and I already reckon that the characters are really going to grate on me. Children, blargh.

I don't have psychoportal, I don't know who boyd is. I'm in my own memories, trying to climb this thorny vine tower thing, going up and around on it. I had to get the rolling ball thing first, whatever its called, before Sasha would let me do it. But now that I have it, its not telling me how to do it, just to climb the tower. I've tried for a long time. lol.

I personally think the characters are the most enjoyable thing in the game. They are very well fleshed out and often quite funny with some good adult humor.

Oh, that thing. There's this big bag of crap up the top of the tower, at the limit as to where you can jump/walk, right? Punch it. It'll start spewing out gas, then jump and float on top of it. Don't you remember the floating bubble thingies in Milla's Mind?

OHHH!!!
Son of a bitch! I kept jumping to the side trying to climb that way! Mother****...

I didn't know those gas bag things were used to float. The stuff in Milla's mind were bubbles :-P I didn't put two and two together. Then again, i was playing it all day long and was rather weary, but damn. lol.

When I saw the first one of those, I was like what the **** is this thing? I tried manipulating it in many ways, until I punched it. I was like, cool, its dead. All this gas was spewing, but I didn't know why for, or what the point of it was. LOL.

I feel stupid.

Don't worry about it. It took me a while to figure that out as well.

For the record, I thought the Coach's mind was a brilliant demo level, but admitedly it is the most boring level - notice 'most'. And I think the art style is great, it's about time someone started realising that the art and style is more important that the number of pixels per breast.

I think the game has a fantastic creative/artistic sense. I don't care about the low polygonal counts or texture maps... its style and flair that matters.

SPOILER below.

After I find Maloof's brain, where is maloof hiding? I love going and talking to the people after I find them.

I played a bit of the demo last night ..the fat kid who blows up the squirrel had me laughing pretty hard ..fun but the controls take awhile to get used to

Okay... the fact that this game didn't achieve financial success, really depresses me. I haven't seen a game this well crafted in a LONG time.

I would even go as far as to say the creativity and originality of this game far surpasses that of even halflife 2.

There's just so much variety, character, charm... amazing storytelling and voice acting, etc etc etc.

I just beat gloria's theatre... and that level is amazing! I mean, the sheer creativeness and originality. Spectacular :)

And I don't know about PC controls, but the X-box controls are easy to master. I would reccomend getting it for that console system(though its the only one i've played it on).

And when you do play... let me just say... talk to everybody, talk to them again and again until they have nothing to say! Talk to them after every mission. explore everywhere. let yourself be absorbed in the sheer brilliance of it all.

I played a bit of the demo last night ..the fat kid who blows up the squirrel had me laughing pretty hard ..fun but the controls take awhile to get used to

That's Dogan. He's my favorite character by far :)

"I would even go as far as to say the creativity and originality of this game far surpasses that of even halflife 2."

Understatement of the year :)

The level inside of Boyd mind is so awesome... i gonna play it again. Also, the guy in the tutorial level who just goes on and on about his dream or whatever it was... I listened to him for like 15mins before i noticed it was actually randomly saying things :D

The Dogan squirrel-busting moment was kind of ruined for me because I killed them myself- only for Dogan to act like they were still there, and perform his squirrel-busting gag. Confused the hell out of me for a little while...

I need the memory of someone who has played far into the game. Spoiler follows.

SPOILER BELOW:

I am at the boneparte guy's mind. At the beginning, when I talk to them, I jump through the thing. unfortunately I skipped past this sequence and its bugging me cause I wanted to know what was said after I jumped in the world. Anybody remember it? I'm gonna cry cause I can't go back and see it again!

Understatement of the year

I agree. One of the most imiginitive and creative games of all time. How's that?

Hmmm. I'll jump into Fred's mind in a little bit and tell you.

BTW, I haven't found Maloof in the camp before freeing Mikhal's (the Russian bear-wrestling guy) mind. After that they're in the car-park.

This is one of the most mother****ing awesome games i've ever played. Every new thing is new and refreshing and a total riot. I never laughed so much in a game before. I'm getting the absolute most enjoyment out of everything, but doing every possible thing I could do each step along the way before I move on.

Wait, it's...

Napoleon - what's this? My lazy oponent is actually trying to win? He is sending in reinforcements? Hah! Then let the game truely begin! Send out my best soldier!

Napoleon - Now attack that bridge!

Soldier - *attacks bridge* Haha, suck on that, bridge!

Fred - awww, the bridge is broken, now I can't get past it! This sucks, I forfeit. You win Napoleon.

The rest went past too fast for me to type.

Where did Ennui go? He said he went to go play it.

How did you replay that scene? I tried to do that in as many ways as I could think of, but finally gave up. It frusterated me cause I was painstakingly listening and viewing everything possible... and I missed that juicy exchange.

I didn't replay it. I'm replaying the whole game, using my 1337 memory skillz, and I was just about to enter Fred's mind when you asked.

I am a grieving widow...

haha, that level was so great.

Oh... my... god. Maloof is one funny mother****er. I couldn't stop laughing for a while when him and his friend are in the parking lot at night.

'Nuff said.

EDIT; HAHAHA, go back to waterloo world if you haven't and talk to the cows.

"Shame on you ungrateful cow."

Holy... WOW. Just... WOW. I finished the game, and I have thoroughly enjoyed every particle of its existence. I've never felt so good about a game before when playing through it, and after finishing it. I will probably not go back and replay it, because I have spent oodles of time absorbing and experiencing everything this game has to offer on the first run through.

This game... I rank it my all time favorite game. This is a pretty serious thing, but I feel it deserves it. No other game do I know to be as creative and imiginitive and funny as this one. The story is rich, the characters are well developed and diverse, the gameplay while not excruciatingly challenging(which I don't mind, rather I prefer to not be difficult) is always new, always different.

That being said, I hope you all take the time out to play this game. To THINK that I let it sit on my shelf without playing it for as long as I have. I also feel that with this game, you need a certain mentality when playing the game. Some games people run through it and then are dissapointed when they do. If you do it with this one, you may be, or you may not, but to have the utmost enjoyment, I highly reccomend doing these things I have listed here, to get the most out of it all. If I missed anything(without providing spoilers), please let me know.

* Take your time! Enjoy the richness of everything in the game. The visuals may not be graphically superior, but they're artistically superior to most games you'll come across. This may not be evident in the beginning, but as the game goes on, you'll come to learn that this game is truely a diamond in the rough. So much detail and creativity is jam packed into this game, I hope you're as amazed as I was.

* Don't stress so much about locating and finding every last card. The cards are nice to have, but they're not entirely integral to your enjoyment. Only seek them out if you want MORE POWER!

* Talk to everybody! Go out of your way to find and talk to everybody. They have great and interesting things to say. Often hilarious too, sometimes subtle, sometimes rather blatent and obvious. Talk to them again and again, as many times as you can until you know that the things they're saying are repeats.

* Listen to the idle chatter of certain people for as long as you can until you know what they're saying starts to repeat itself. Some of these are mindless rantings, or ramblings which are hilarious and just plain fun to listen to. Or at least I think so.

* Locate and talk to everybody you possibly can after each mission/big mission. Their dialogue changes, they sometimes are located in different areas doing different things. Don't miss out on one speck of Psychonauts goodness... Make an effort in this part especially. Some of my greatest memories are from doing this, and the things i've heard certain characters say or do.

* Explore EVERYWHERE! Take in the scenery of the real world, of the mental worlds, you name it. There's so much detail everywhere in everything. It helps you get a understanding for certain characters especially if you take notice of all the visual stimuli in their minds.

* If you acquire a special item. Take it and show it to EVERYBODY that you can! Some items warrant no reaction from anybody, but most of them, EVERYBODy has a unique thing to say about it!

* Hit everything, bash everything that isn't just there for giving you items. It only takes a little bit out of your time to do this, and some things provoke interesting sounds/speeches from your character or others when you do it.

* Use clairvoyance on EVERYTHING. Use it on every living thing you can possibly think of or come across, in mental state or in the real world. The developers have gone to great lengths to give just about every living thing a unique view of the main character with clairvoiance. If it moves/talks/breathes or has a pulse of some form, use clairvoyance on it.

* Use Your pyrokinesis, telekinesis on all of the characters that you can see. They have unique sounds/speeches, sometimes MULTIPLE if you use these powers on them. Some are hilarious!

* If you finish somebody's mind, GO BACK INTO IT at least once. With most of the characters minds, when you enter back into it, they'll update you on the situation. Some things in certain peoples minds even change.

* Find and break open all of the vaults in peoples minds. The little clips develop the characters past or present and help enrich the experience you have knowing just who they are.

* And finally... look at the credits once you have beaten the game! They included quite a few cool/funny images based on the game that you'd love to see!

Side Note: Where is Benny at after you find his brain? He's the only guy I never talked to after rescuing his brain. I looked everywhere.

It's the great mystery. Some claim that he stays in Ford's TV lounge. Others have never found him.

Meat Circus is a *bitch*. Fun, but a *bitch*.

Stop teasing me with your awesome games and find me a local PC copy. Dammit.

I'm this is pretty much how I felt all this time, and I'm glad that finally other people played it and felt this way, and now know what I mean. BTW I'm saving what you typed because you basicly explained how I feel about the game in the best possible way.

Come one, come all, BUY PSYCHOANUTS OR I CRUSH YOUR LEGS WITH MY MIND!

And your local PC copy should be in a Games Wizard near you, Venturon. That's the only place I can think of that sells the PC version.

This makes me really want to buy the game again. But i can't find it anywhere and i have no money :(

I vote this overrated-on-hl2.net game of the year. It's nothing but another crappy console-to-pc port. Why do they even bother?

.bog.

Psychonauts owns your soul, you're just in denial. :D

It's not a port. Simultaneous development.
