Purchasing through STEAM

Hey, Im new to this forum but I'm not a moron. I've downloaded all of the half-life 2 preloads using STEAM, but I was wondering how you actually go about purchasing halflife2 using steam. Will I need to wait until the game is released to purchase it or can I pre pay now? Also, isnt that going to be shite load of bandwidth used up on the day its actually released if 5000 fanboys are trying to pay for the game on STEAM. Any help greatly appreciated.

PS will we need to have bought the game in order to play CS:SOurce that is supposedly coming next week?

At some point in the coming week, HL2 will be available for purchase. Most likely a window will pop up when you start Steam, that says "BUY HL2 NOW!!?!/1" or something. If it doesn't, you would be able to buy it in the "browse games' window, as with all games on Steam. Once you've bought it, you won't be able to play it until the release date. However, CS:S comes with HL2 and you'll be able to play that straight away.

And no, I don't think CS:S is available as a seperate purchase, so you'll HAVE to buy HL2 to get it.

It will probably like condition-zero. When steam runs, it'll pop-up a windows saying a new product is available and through the browse games button.

as far as I can tell from all that has been said...when we get the prices we will be able to purchase HL2 before it is on the shelves...but it won't be unlocked until it goes retail...as soon as CS:Source is released we should have that info(the prices)...and therefore be able to order the damn gold/silver/bronze edition and play whatever is available as soon as its available
