I dont think you guys have any idea how awesome it will be, or atleast some of you. The regular half life deathmatch is a classic, i still play it to this day. Just think 2-3 months from now you'll be playing in some awesome server with great people, with everything just like the old multiplayer except real time physics, i cant wait, its going to be so amazing. So let's all post some ideas on how some cool maps or teamplays would be.

So imagine a junkyard type place, tons of barrels around, few buggies, other objects, and ppl just getting run over and people shooting barrels and objects into the side of vehicles and you can take it from there!
 
Never did care for deathmatch. I thought it a boorish gametype myself. I prefer team oriented gameplay modes.

I cant wait for team fortress style multiplayer gaming.
 
No joke, i really wanna see what they do with TFC. I take it the TF2 team are the people redoing it, but why bother they need to finish TF2!
 
im gonna make a map with matresses all over the place and all u have is a manipulator, its gonna be so fun everyone shooting matresses at each other ppl blocking the matreses using their matreses!! its gonna be amazing!!
 
hopefuly physics carry over perfectly to multiplayer.

what Im looking forward to is the simple things.. like running up to a friend and whacking him up side the head with my crowbar (the crowbar is physically simulated), then watch as his body ragdolls, recoiling from the shot, his head swings in the opposite direction as he staggers and crumples to the ground.

then Im gonna crouch down look directly at his death-cam, and say "Owned Biatch" in my mic, and let him watch as my character mouthes the words and makes a constipated face.
 
How bout a level full of boards you walk on, and they are all destructable.
 
I think they are really cutting down on the mouthing for multiplayer, doubt you could see what people were saying, mouth just moves around i bet.
 
Two completly destructable old-sk00l pirate ships firing cannons at each other while the crews (well, those who aren't firing cannons) duel it out with modern technology. Haha. :) That's what I want. I'll make it if I have to!
 
buggys, barrles, brakeable wood u drive trough with the buggys and lots of jumps
 
I'd allow the manipulator as the only available weapon then populate the level with creme pies.
 
Team deathmatch will be awesome. Combine vs. the resistant fighters, that would be cool. There could be a balance in the gameplay like if the combine didn't have the manipulator, but then again they would have some other hi-tech weapons. And the resistant fighters didn't have tanks or striders, but they would have those fast buggy vehicles and jeeps and stuff. That would make it harder to choose your side, instead of just everyone wanting to be the ones with the manipulator.

By the way, if the crowbar is physically simulated, is it possible to trip NPCs by hitting their ankles or knees? That would be funny. In Max Payne 2 you could knock off NPCs by shoot-dodging or jumping on them
 
I doubt you can make people fall over by hitting them with the crowbar, as they dont use there karma untill they die, if you kill them by hitting them in the legs then sure, they will fall down like that... I guess.

That's probably the greatest idea I've heard so far for multiplayer. Screw throwing cars!

hitting people in the knees wont knock them over, it will only damage them.
as The Mistress said, the engine only hands the model over to Havok for ragdoll physics once it is dead.
Im sure a mod could easily make it though when someone is shot/hit in the knees (hitboxes) that they would fall over.
and I wonder if you can ragdoll something, then make it playable again. (ex: hit him in the knees, he ragdolls but isnt dead, gets up again)
Im sure keeing the animation in sync would be hard, unless you could perform some arbitrary constraints on the ragdoll when knocked down (so that it stays within a reasonable pose that you can then predict the animation to come from)


the crowbar being physically simulated means, that when you attack and it hits something it will recoil instead of playing a stock animation.
in other words say I swing at a pole in front of me, but theres something jutting out slightly to the side that would realistically block my swing... well it does ;P

lol thats a great idea. I was going to make a building where you could destroy the supports and watch it tumble to the ground.
 
How about a level with a big pit of acid underneath you and all you can walk on are destructible boards, and all you can do is you the manipulator to pick up stuff to break the boards to make other guys fall in.

Sounds fun. But there should be some other weapons or the map should be very large so that it wouldn't get boring.
 
this thread is really funny, everyone is talking about how they will use the manipulator in MP, but ive got this gut feeling, the manipulator wont be integrated in the MP
 
Ok then, a modl with superpowered manipulators (which you don't spawn with) and no other weapons or objects - you have to throw your enemies at each other.

This the most greatest thing I've heard in a long time :D ..Valve please implement this to multiplayer, cs and all the others, so that you could actually tell the dead people something and your chars face could be seen by that person lip-syncing the words and he could hear you!

car trap + online = dead friends getting owned
 
A rather large map with 3 things....manipulators, cars of all sorts, and exploding barrels......nuff said.
 
hw about sword fighting ... sounds good to me!
