I am sitting here on my mothers new laptop that she purchased from a retail store, and I felt it needed cleaning...badly. Went through and uninstalled a whole bunch of shit that wasn't needed, and now her CDROM drive will not load. Apparently the file is missing or corrupt.

The file is in the drivers folder, so I'm guessing when I unistalled a program, it made sure you know that it's gone by corrupting the file. Anybody have the file in good working order? Everywhere I CAN download requires me to pay anything from$15 - $20.

If you can tell me how to remove the driver from anything to do with the CDROM drive, much obliged.

AFAIK a run of the mill optical drive shouldn't have any specialized drivers, it should be governed by the all powerful Windows Operating System. This means the file that you are having problems with is associated to a piece of crap software. Most likely, you failed to remove the software completely from Windows, thus causing the problem. You have several options:

1) Google the file and find a/this website for some tips: http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/process/pxhelp20.sys.html
2) Reinstall the entire OS/driver system on your laptop
3) Let your mother beat you with the laptop for screwing with her new computer
4) Contact your laptop manufacturer's technical support for a fix

Lucky for me, A LOT of digging with Google worked. I was really drunk when I found the answer, but I think it was Microsoft.com that had the answer. I had to go into the registry and remove a couple of specific entries that were hidden in a way so casual searching wouldn't find it. It works now, though. :D

And I'm sure I'd have failed to completely uninstall a program if I wasn't me...heh. Add/Remove Programs better fully remove a program, and sometimes I should have to delete a folder, but I did all that, and nothing. It was just being shitty by adding itself to the registry in a way that you NEEDED that program. I hate that shit.
