hey guys im finally getting around to learning how to UVW map, and i just uvw mapped two of my knives correctly. Im going to step it up a notch to my Glock, now i was wondering do i attach all the pieces? and should i seperate the pieces like in the picture below.

**NOTE i didnt attach those pieces yet i just sorted them out**

so you have to separate your model when you put the textures on it? is that hard to separate it and put it back together?

depends on the way you do it. i detach all the main sections, and then lay them out flat, or unfold them. so id detach the top and sides of the slide, and then the end pieces. then attach the end pieces, but only weld a few verts so that it unfolds correctly.

...if that makes sense

you do the nasty ank way :(

They made the UVW unwrap interface for a reason!

Why is my way nasty? Oh it must be nasty because it is better, I get it.

Ank dont be so vein :p. Anks way is actually brilliant and i must stop saying anks way. The viewport unwrapping method :) is brilliant. I have had to resort to it many times. For best results learn both, understand unwrapping and its not a problem anymore just a step in the process :).

O and dont resort to my unwrappin tut in my avatar. Its terrible hope the link doesnt work, ive learnt so much since i did it.

i just taught myself how to do it that way. i dont actually lay it out in the viewport, just detach and re-attach parts or verts to get the best results when you use the unfold option in the unwrapper. saves you a load of hassle, i like it especially as you dont have to do much work in that cacky little unwrap window...god i hate that thing :rolling:

PS. waedo, dont have any links, but i guess i could make a tut like Ank did...but theres no point cause Ank has already made one, and hes pro

It's not really my way at all, I just made a video because not many people knew about this way. Viewport unwrapping is much easier because you get all the axes and not just the one in the Edit UVW window. Anyway, you can get it here, waedoe: http://ank.deltr.com/ank-uv-video.zip

I need to make another one with voice-over one of these days.
