HL2 didn't have a demo to start with, and look how incredible that turned out. And from what I understand Raven's track record far surpasses Id's as far as implementing interesting gameplay goes. Story?, well we'll have to see on that. Doom 3 was a tech demo in a lot of respects, and it was made by Id. Quake 4 has had time to further refine the technology, and the gameplay associated with the tech (not to mention a very capable developer). Will Q4 own all?, not sure yet but I'm keeping an open mind.
There are some games that are hyped up beyond belief, like FEAR, who knows if it will deliver on it's promises. Hey, for all we know, this may be the next revolution of the Quake series.
