Quake 4

fear is pretty direct, except for the occasionally shoot a lock, walk around the back. i haven't finished it though, so maybe it gets real tricky near the end.

i got the CD version of Quake4 as a present for X-mas and being someone not great with CD's i gotta say i wish publishers would just forget CD versions. :frown:

and oh...whats with DVD/collectors editions only being available for pre-order? :|

Cuz DVD versions are more expensive to produce, and because not everyone has DVD drives they have to settle for the lowest common denominator. It sucks, I wish they'd make the switch and get it over with. But that's just the way it is.

You sir need to move to the UK.

Seriously, we don't get CD's anymore. Plus we have nice DVD cases. :D

bloody hell, you're joking right? i get huge slowdown.. on medium and special effects off. at 800x600 etc. and i've got a similar system, i guess your 6600GT is quite abit better tahn my 9800 pro :p me needs an upgrade :(

Im enjoying the game though, its pretty thoughtless and i love the graphics... and monsters, i hate the dark but the flashlights are good :)

more like LOLing!! HAHA! Why is the game series called "quake" anyway?

Quake Manual said:
"An enemy codenamed Quake, is using his own slipgates to insert death squads inside our bases to kill, steal, and kidnap... "

Tried the demo, runs surprisingly well on a FX5200. Seems a bit meh, not going to buy it.

It runs like crap on my Sempron 2800+, 512mb ddr400, Gf 4 ti 4200 64 mb. I hope my new pc arrives soon :) 1600x1200, MAXED OUT Rofl Roflolski!

Get bad screw ups in the graphics sometimes, turned the settings all the way down, but still sometimes f**ks up.

P4 3.2Ghz
1 Gb RAM
ATi Radeon X600 Pro 128Mb RAM

Patched Quake, and on 5.12 Catalyst drivers

i don't know about the people who did not like Quake4 but i was playing through the first few single player levels and i was having fun.
saw my brother playing the MP and it looked fun... so um yeah, maybe i suppose its acquired taste? :p

It's not an aquired taste, it's just most people are fanboys. HATEHATEHATE.

Oh, wow, thats good to hear. I have an FX5500 and I wasn't going to even bother trying it but now am going to. Thanks man.

I got a free copy with my eVGA 7800GT, but I will say the game FAILS miserably to draw you into the action, the multiplayer was ok for about 10 minutes.

Quake 4 isn't a bad game... it's not a earth-shatteringly excellent one, but it's well presented while it lasts. There are some great sequences hidden in there. (And one fantastic sequence that was spoilt for everyone ages ago :/)

Certain aspects of the game aren't all that great. Sadly, shooting stuff is a bit "meh", and worse of all are those frequently appearing "helpful strogg" moments where you think you're stuck in an area, but lo and behold, your friendly neighbourhood enemy is here to open unlocked doors and smash down walls for you! About as open-ended as Toblerone Bar sealed shut with extra-strong glue and buried forty thousand kilometeres under the earth.

At the very least, Half-Life Opposing Force fans should check it out. The similarities to that HL expansion of yore aren't exactly extensive, but they're there:

- Failed Insertion procedure
- Lying Unconsious in Insertion vehicle, seeing comrades fighting and dying
- Fighting alongside Soldiers
- Chaos of war including battle chatter, marines not knowing where comrades are and other atmospheric points.
-
Main character is (or becomes) "the Opposing Force"
- Exciting "Find the Medic to heal my Engineer to opperate this door" gameplay
- Puzzle Boss Killed by application of toxic liquid - check
- Obese Puzzle Boss that thrashes around at you with appendages - check
- Allied characters becoming fewer and fewer as you progress, so it's left up to you to save mankind etc. - check

Plus one of the levels is heavily reminiscent of the aged industrial machine levels of the HL series (particularly Residue Processing). Just my view of the game. Like Doom 3 getting jiggy with Half-Life Opposing Force. Painted Brown.
