Quake mod

I'm a big fan of Quake 2, and was thinking about starting a Quake 2 inspired mod using the Source engine. This time around, though, I want the Quake universe to be populated with interesting characters, and Valve's source technology seems perfect for this, with the incredible detail/emotions available to them. A strong storyline will be one of the game's big features, along with varied and innovative gameplay. My ambitions for this mod include:

1: A colorful cast of characters to populate the world

2: A highly detailed setting

3: A wide array of weapons and creatures

4: Many different styles of gamplay

I will be the writer/designer, constantly trying to create a concrete story and a believable world, but other's input will be welcomed!. I am currently looking for mappers, programmers, 3d modellers, texture/concept artists etc.
 
So a SP total conversion? I'd suggest writing up a design doc before recruiting, but i've been told that I'm an idiot so don't listen to me..
 
Hehe, I sense sarcasm :rolleyes:, yeah bascically it is an SP conversion MP may come later after we have gotten the former off the ground first. I am starting to write up a design doc, should have some of it done quite soon.

In my own opinion, a design doc would be a good idea, but I wouldn't make it way too detailed until you have a team. I beleive that you should get a team that is interested in the general idea and let them make decisions on it with you, so its not so much like "this is what we are doing, bitches."

Just an opinion.

Your an idiot, don't listen to 63, he's only good for Shepard Pie recipes

naa he's right, come up with a design doc and plenty of planning first.

Oh and contact id first, the Q2 source code might be public now, but the resources and IP of the game itself likely aren't.
 
All good ideas, things I have already considered and am still planning to do. But contacting id can wait until a few initial team members are in place, this whole idea will not come to fruition if no one is interested, see my point?.

Why can't people remember that I ( myself) is writen with a Capitale I , you don't say "i like it" you say " I [notice the captile] like it .

why cant people remember that "Capital" is spelled "Capital". notice the capotiail "C". :cheers:

why not do this in the D3 engine? Isn't that a little more appropriate?
 
I was told by someone that D3 didn't have full modding tools, only a map editor.

Yeah but its id, it'll have all the tools turn up soon enough, the game isn't fully released yet, so give it time. Just look at the countless tools for all the other id games.
 
Cool idea. But would there really be a point with Quake IV coming out soon? Is Quake IV a new game or is it a remake of the old Quake? I thought I remembered reading that it was a remake, but I'm not sure.
 
I don't really play half life to play quake :P If you want quake go play quake :D Quake killed my inner child :(
 
The original Quake kicked major ass, mostly because it was the first true 3d (polygonal world and geometry) fps, but also because it was so easy to mod.. I mean mucho easy... even a kid could do it (and I did, a lot actually).

I would love to see a Quake 1 remake.. even if just for the nostalgia.
Quake 4 is rumored to be more like Quake 2, which funnily enough I didnt enjoy as much as Quake 1.
