Here in America, Ca specificly we no longer allow fags in bars. This is because they are said to bother other patrons and hurt their lugs etc. Accaulty we banned them from beaches and public places because of they large amount of liter that can add up from disguarding them where they are not supposed to be.
I don't care either way, just wondering is all.
Fags = Cig's or Smokes in Uk

In England, a Fag is a gay person. What you said is really funny :P

But anyway, Cigarettes are not banned in public yet, and most bars/pubs allow smoking. Some have no-smoking areas, and a handful are completely no-smoking. The streets are still littered with tab ends from discarded cigs dropped by idiots.

There is a trial run done in a few pubs somewhere or other, I think its a good idea I hate smoke, I always stink of it after being in a pub for at least half an hour

alright you did that on purpose ...Fags (cigarettes) are a UK thing

Definition #1

fag
n. Slang

A cigarette.

#2
fag
n. Offensive Slang

Used as a disparaging term for a homosexual man.

:dozey: Why are you using Fag? You know there are some gay people roaming these boards right? That's like addressing someone by a racist comment.

Oops misread it. Nevermind, you knew that you'd be tricking someone!

That aint quite true Pob. In Huddersfield all the homeless people walk around collectin the tab ends. And a Fag can mean either a gay person or a cigarette...

Let's just clear this up for everyone - he means cigarette, not gay person.

Hhaha I was like wow CA is totally avoiding some Bill of Rights/Amendments. But ya here in Florida no smoking, smoking to me smells good some places like the bowling alley, but if your trying to enjoy your self by eating some good food or drinking no smoking... But they should make bars and places that want to let people smoke, have a balcony or some kind of deck/patio so the smoke can be ventilated by the outside air.

Hahaha, I was what the hell is he on about. I hate fags.

...

Back on topic, avoiding individuals with a juvenile sense of humour.

Yeah, we do, but I wish they wouldn't. You can't stop someone from living life how they want to, but you shouldn't allow them to murder other people with their habits.

Hey....I don't appreciate you giving me lung cancer while I'm trying to get liver disease over here.

Rofl Thats a good point.

Oh dear. People, please.

That can be said, but smokers still have no right to inflict their addiction on other people. The facts are, smoking a pack a day will kill you a lot faster than a pint a day.

Smoking should be banned world-wide. Fact is most smokers want to give up, but they dont have the will-power. If cigarettes were banned they wouldn't really have a choice now would they.

Very few people 'want' to smoke, and why should the masses suffer for the minority?

And how many people actually drink 'a pint' a day? Theres more people dying through drink related problems than smoke related ones.

I think they belong in bars and homes but not outside. In bars you pick you poision. At home, well its on ur time. Outside imho is another story.

Please, show me some proof that more people die of liver disease and other alcohol related incidents/diseases than smoking related issues.

Not many people drink a pint a day. Most people consume about 3 pints in one night of the week, and none other.

ban cigarrettes, smoke pot!

hey, it works for me

Why should the minority have rights if they can just be taken away by the majority? The majority can take care of itself, its the minorities that rights are created for. Banning people from smoking in the bars is the bar owners decision, outright banning a product is the majority's opinion.

I don't agree with an outright ban, unless even the smokers want it. If grown adults want to make a choice, then why the hell should you be allowed to stop them?

This reminds me of the little candy cigarettes we used to have here in Oz. THey were called "Fags". Then the PC brigade comes in and says, "Oh, no! You can't use the word 'Fag' in public these days! Naughty, naughty, naughty! You'll have to change it!"

So now they're called "Fads", which makes little or no sense whatsoever.

On a rather different note, I reckon smoking should be banned full stop in all public places. Maybe they could have little "Smoking rooms" where the smokers could go to stink the place up.

Bah...drinking and smoking is for the weak.

Oh I forgot my sarcasm tags again damn't....But I say ban cigs all together. You don't want to lose a lung...

You must live in the middle of no where, because people around here say it meaning cigarette all the time. :P

Where I live fag means gay person or a bundle of sticks. Never heard the word refering to cigarettes before.

Using my infinite intelligence, I have worked out that there is a distinct possibility that Fag is short for Fagot (spelt with two Gs).

:|

Well lets just put an end to it already. In America, a fag is short for fagot, which is used as an insult towards gay people, or just people in general, most often by males still attending high-school. I have never, not once in my life, heard it used by people in reference to anything else (and I've heard lots of people use it). I can't speak for every other country, but my general understanding is that outside of the US, fag stands for cigarette, or a bundle of wood you use for a fire (therefore it makes perfect sense to use it for both). There! :p

Hmm well outside the US there aren't that many english speaking countries you know ;)

People who do not like my cigarette smoke are quite a liberty not to stand next to me. By all means have a smoking and no smoking section.

(http://www.ash.org.uk/html/factsheets/html/fact08.html)...domestic exposure to secondhand smoke causes at least 3,600 deaths annually from lung cancer.

...the report claims the real number of all deaths connected with alcohol misuse is closer to 33,000
*not to mention*
Alcohol abuse is linked to:
65% of suicide attempts
76,000 facial injuries a year
23% of child neglect calls to national helplines
39% of fires
15% of drownings

Whats next, ban drinking in pubs?

When the wind is up in Melbourne, "Next to" a smoker can spontaneously include any area within fifteen feet of him/her.
