on the bink video 'trap town' when gorden goes up the stairs just before he picks up the radiator with the gravity gun, some combine shoots through a window at these wooden blind things and they flap about from rebounds from the bullets, well i was thinking would they break if bullets hit them?

I remember that part you're talking about - they probably would, seems like all objects like that are affected. But weren't those things metal? If they were, they wouldn't break...

Yeah they were metal. Odd thing in that video is that the blinds are being knocked into the room, because someone is shooting in through the window - at the combine soldier.

Wasn't he shooting through the window from the outside because he saw gordon through the window as he was picking up the radiator. Then gordon backs up and you see the bullets coming through the window.

Yeah that scene was a bit strange I didn't get it atfirst. But yes there was a combine outside the window firing in. He just kept firing even though Gordon was out of sight.

not a very good pic soz, look wooden 2 me

they're just normal everyday blinds. I doubt they are wooden. But no matter what they are, if a bullet hit them they would still recieve some momentum as the bullet tries to move through them.

In the video they don't, so no. Bullets wont break blinds.

better pic, if they are plastic they would still break and metal would buckle because you dnt get heavy metal blinds

Most actions made by the Combine in the Traptown bink was scripted. If you look hard enough, you can tell. The Zombie AI looks OK, tho.

the soldier outside didnt shoot eventhough he couldnt see gordon, he shoot because hes scripted to do so :)

Yeah well the first time HL2 was on the E3 nearly everything was scripted...at least I think so. They only wanted to show us how it was gonna be like...

That's a daft thing to script.

Script: Combine soldier situated outside of window fires pointlessly at the window blinds.

The blinds *should* break, but it's more fun for them not to so they don't.

um no cuz if you know physics. a bullet from a MP7 with a distance of 30 yds will be able to go throught the blinds but the first split second will push the blind a little but since it is so fast it look like they are being pushed all the way up. in addition to that some of the bullets might be hitting the sides of the blinds

I've got a question concerning this video...

What gfx seetings were they using?
Did anyone ever say what comp specs the binks were recorded at?

Edit: if you ask me... it looks like theres no aa/af

looks shitty to me.

I think the first E3 Binks were done on a 9800Pro. Note, I have no proof of this.

yeah the original binks were a 9800 pro but the newer ones will defo be the x800 (coast trainstation etc)

bink videos are gRAPHICALLY ENHANCED AND and i bet that they must be using the x800

X800 Wasnt even a twinkle in ATI's eye when these videos were first released!!

Try 9800 pro

Yep, exactly. Last year's binks were done on a 9800 Pro and this year's on an X800 Pro. In the old binks you could tell they had AA and AF turned off. The newer binks definitely look better.

1) d3d 9 quality at a typical widescreen resolution (may be 848x480 or higher) with much aa and af
2) such videos can be recorded if u have minimum system requirements (800mhz cpu 256mb ram and a dx9 video cars that can render all the effects). u dont need a fancy high end system to render that videos

see more in the counterstrike forum ... there is a fixed thread on how to make movie, but read the whole thread, the first post is bullshit :)

Why do you want AA and AF in a video so much? I'm happy already we get highres Binks instead of blurry .wmv video's as with most other games so where you can't even see about where AA and AF is enabled or not.
