Is Jedi Academy a sequel to Jedi Outcast? Or is it a new series, so we could see a Jedi Academy II?

Its a seperate game, it also got leaked well before it came out.

It was gonna be an expansion but they added so much they made it into a full game. Don't expect anything too different from Outcast.

Not really... You dont play Kyle Katarn as far as I know. Thus it cant be a true sequal.

You play a young jedi wannabe who gets trained by kyle katarn :D

It's gonna be fun wahtever it is.

I really enjoyed jedi outcast once i got my saber, Acadamy gives it to you right at the start and there are several different types, including one in each hand.

It's part of the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series of games so it's a sequel.
It's not JK3 though, it's more of a JK2 spin off.
It's like what GTA:VC was to GTA3, same engine, same basic systems with reworked ideas and improvements.

Yeah, sadly... The way they use the Quake 3 engine in JKA looks horrible by todays standard. Sure its gonna run at like 100-200 fps on the average players computer, but it aint pretty. Blocky enviroments and low resolution textures all the way...
It would have been so nice to see a Dark Forces game use the Unreal II engine, or Source... Or the Doom III engine, but I like the option for larger enviroments.

Why do people who don't know, comment.
It's not an official sequel.

Jedi Knight2 : Outcast continued you as Kyle, Jedi Knight 3 also intends to continue you as Kyle, that's the sequel.

Alas what a lot of people can't seem to grasp is that this is not Jedi Kngiht3. It's Jedi Knight Academy ( JKA ) and you play a young to-be Jedi who you can customise and then train up.

In terms of Single Player it's not a sequel, it's just another Jedi Knight game. In terms of multiplayer it's the same bloody thing and everyone who was good at JK2 is gonna w00p everyone at JKA. The gameplay is going to be mundane and stale within weeks and with current JK2 communities acting like Kingpin one's they're not communities I want to be in.

Old news.

They stuck with the Q3 engine because they'd learnt so much about it that they could do more with it than with a brand new engine. It doesn't actually look that bad.

Fans predict that JK3 will be done on the ut2k3 engine.

It looks like its very bad from all the official screenshots. The thing is, they havent up the polycounts. They could have doubled them, giving a MUCH better look, but what I see in the pics looks even worse than JK2 sometime. Or take Elite Force II, its MUCH prettier than any JKA screens... MUCH...

Sidenote: I hope JK3 will use Source :)

I've played the Alpha and thought it surpassed JK2 in both character movement, textures, models, skins, etc, etc.

You are, however, very correct about EF2. For a Q3 engine based game it was amazing, the attention paid to detail just blew me away.

I was with the best JK2 clan in the world for saber combat and learnt a lot of stuff about exploiting the limited combat with combos and so forth. If there's one thing that I learnt from that whole experience it's that Raven are VERY VERY short sighted. Tbh I think they're wankers.
