Question about the physics.

I've seen in the movie and a screen shot a dock in the water, where a few headcrab scientists are walking. When you go onto the dock, because of the physics would it be possible to shoot the wood planks, therfore causing the baddies to fall in the water?
Oh and if it is possible...don't worrie..I'll jump across :)

Yes, but it's up to the mapper to include that (set the planks to be physically modeled (or whatever).
 
It's certainly possible, and I'd like a consistency in the physics, so it would be great if those planks you're talking about can get shot into the water. Then they would have to make sure Gordon can swim across and get back up somewhere otherwise you're screwed.... :)

thats gunna be a big killer in the custom maps that are gunna come out, mainly from newbie mappers, ppl are going to get so involved in what they can do, that they forgot that you have to able to get places.. lol :bounce:

exactly why geo mods are extremely hard to implement.... example

locked door? i don't need no friggen key (takes out a rocket launcher) ya know?
 
Well, they said that things that are made of the wood material will act like wood... so I would assume that the boards on the dock would be able to break.

Please nobody mention RF, it pains me to think that such a great idea/technology can be so poorly excecuted.
 
In that situation, I think you would be able to break the boards. You must be able to swim somewhere because

1) A zombie can hit you off, like in the movie
2) You cold fall off

What about if all the planks are destroyed? You'll just have to swim I'm afraid....anyway, it's a good excuse to check out the amazing water effects.:cool:
 
one of the magazine previewers got to play that part, and the guy said he shot the boards infront of the zombie with a shotgun and it broke and then the zombie fell into the water, heh.

Sweet. HL2 is gonna be the standard for future FPS.
 
First off wood that thick doesn't break to a little USP gun that easily.
All the bullet would do is just run through the wood boards.
A shotgun may be able to break it.

And secondly, this is a game so I really sohuldn't be taliking about this...

i saw a video where gordon hold a shotgun on the dock. It's absolutly possible to make the plank breakable. maybe valve didn't make it breakable due to the designe of the gameplay, but if many people really want every piece of wood or other material breakable in hl2, some mod team will definitly make it for us.

i don't see why we shouldn't talk about this. Even in a game, it could be fun to break wood. I remember that's a map in red faction mp with a huge bridge, whenever i get to that map, the first thing i do is to destroy the brigde by exploding the places that suspend the bridge with fusion rocket which causes the entire brigde to collapse.
 
wonder if its possible to make a bridge in HL2 where you can only destroy it by putting charges in the rights spots and blowing them together, that would be soo freakin cooool

Sure, that would be pretty easy I'd imagine.
