My computer specs are:

2.4 Ghz
512 RAM
GeForce FX5200 128 mb

So, for those of you who have system specs similar to mine and have already purchased HL2 over steam and are now playing CS:S, could you tell me what settings you run it on and what fps you get? I am still debating whether or not to purchase it.

Please post your system specs (just to see how similar they are to mine) and what settings and fps you run CS:S at. Thanks.

I have:

P4 3.2Ghz 1MB cache
1024MB DDR RAM

and.....

Geforce 4200ti

I use 800x600, all settings on high, no AA, Trilinear filtering, and no reflection for water and I get around 30 FPS or so.

1.8 p4
4600ti 128mb directx8 card
512 rdram

35-85 fps on lowest settings.
20-50 fps on recommended settings.

I would recommend buy it over steam so that you can tweak as you play and to prepare for hl2 buy upgrading your system if you think you would need to.

I myslef am holding out till the day its announced release date to upgrade my system with probably a 3.0, 1gig ram, the fastest card ati or nvidia sports.

wow... that seems wrong..... =(

I use a

2.4 ghz P4
256 MB DDR RAM
Radeon 9700 Pro 128MB

@ 800x600 I get 60+ fps
@ 1024x768 I get 40+ fps

40 is acceptable to me. =)

Oh, that's with:

textures: medium
AA: x2
Trilinear filtering
all reflections for water

=)

Wow. I have a:

Pentium 4 2.2GHz
512MB RAM
Geforce 4 Ti4200 12MB

I have all settings maxed, including reflectivity and Trilinear filtering. 1024x768. No AA. I get an average of 50FPS, the game runs and looks great. Considering my computer is considerably worse than yours, I don't see why you have that framerate.

2.4 Ghz Pentium 4
512 MB PC2100 Ram
GeForce4 Mx440 64mb

I play on 1024x768, everything on high except player models, bilinear filter, and AA off. I average around 50 fps, drops down to around 40 when I see other people firing, easily playable.

post a screenshot with your average fps please, just out of curiosity, and for comparison... it is weird that your computer outperforms a:

P4. 2.8ghz 800fsb
512mb ddr pc 3200
GFX 5200 128mb.

(my second computer)
it runs in 800x600 with everything maxed (no AA and no AF)
and it gets around 70fps constant.
but put it into 1024x768 it keels over and dies.
(30-40 non-constant)

That's amazing. Since Scott's computer is very similar to mine, do you guys think I should buy? Sounds like it can run decently on my computer. By the way, thanks for replying.

same here. do you know if the ti4200 supports "reflect all" while seeing water or looking at the scope of your sniper rifle?

Specs:
2.4 P4
512 Megs
9600XT

CSS with DX 9.0 most settings medium low, no AA nor AF 800x600 30-40 FPS

CSS with DX 7.0 most settings medium low, no AA nor AF 800x600 60-100 FPS

This is fine with me cause I'm looking forward to having a nicer graphics cards in around a year and playing with nice settings. This is fine for now but I can't wait till I have a job and a better Graphics Card.

I'll be glad to, I'll post later on in the thread with a screenshot but I don't have time right now. I think the reason my computer does better is because I'm running it on DX8 and my card doesn't support any reflections (I don't think, I have it maxed and don't see any). It should also be noted that it takes a couple minutes for the FPS to even out, as it is quite choppy when you first load the map but gets to a stable FPS soon.

Also, the FPS varies greatly depending on the map. On office it's usually around 30 indoors and 40 outdoors. On maps like Havana I rarely see it as low as 30, almost always about 40-50.

Anyway I'll get a screenshot up in a high action area soon.

P4 2.66ghz
512mb
Radeon 9600p

1024x768
Everything on max except textures, no AA, trilinear filtering, 40-60 fps average.

I think it is safe to say that everyone has a bit of lag/choppiness, regardless of the system specs.

I'm running:
Athlon XP 2600+ (2.1ghz)
1gb pc3200 ddr ram
geforce fx 5900 128mb
etc etc

And I still feel a slight chop or warp - but then again I think everyone else does too.

As the other guy requested, I got a few pics up of me running the game. It's on de_dust and I didn't have time to take any real nice ones since I gotta start working on some stuff pretty soon. Doesn't matter though, you can still see the FPS (although its kinda hard on the observer ones, didn't think about that when I was taking them, sorry).

de_dust0001.jpg

36 FPS

de_dust0006.jpg

48 FPS

de_dust0009.jpg

66 FPS

de_dust0002.jpg

de_dust0003.jpg

I think that shows it pretty well. As you see not a constant 50 but that's where it stays the majority of the time.

Pentium 4: 2.0GHz @ 2.2GHz
Ram: 512mb
Vid: Geforce 4 Ti4200

800x600
Medium (low makes no real difference)

Min: ~25fps
Avg: ~35-40fps
Max: ~60-85fps

It's not fun at all when you have to turn the details to crap in order to get decent fps. The graphics is the only reason why CS:S was appealing, I can't even use them =/

Time for a 9800

Running on dx9, settings all the way up, no AA/AF I get 30-50 fps.

2ghz AMD
512 pc2700 ram
9600 512mb

I haven't tried dx8 or 7. I don't wanna. I like my dx9 effects.

You're right smwScott the reason your ti4200 is performing better than a fx5200 is because the fx is running on dx9 most likely whereas yours is on dx8.

Well, I'll tell ya something. I run a AMD Athlon XP 3000+, 768 MB RAM, and a crappy GeForce FX 5200. I run 1024/768, high texture detail, medium model detail, no AA and AF, V-sync on, low shadows, bumpmaping up, and i get 40-75 fps. So I'm happy. Oh yea, I'm running DX 8.1 mode (i did this cuz its the deference in graphics is NOT AT ALL noticable from DX 9 in game play. I saw a site comparing the two modes, and I could BARELY see it even looking at it). So if ya know wut ure doing, you can get good fps with a piece of shit like a Ge Force FX 5200 (I wouldnt suggest you get one though).

That's a shame, you know if you upgraded your gfx card you could run CS:S high detail without a hitch ;)

I have:

2.4ghz
1Gb of RAM
GeForce FX 5800

All the settings are on max and I get about 35 fps

Haha, Inferno, your sig is from Red Alert, isn't it?

Haha in all the years I've been using it, you're the first to say anything. Nice!

That game rocked my world, probably the only reason I know anything about computers... wait, was that a good thing? Ah well :D

Yes, I believe Red Alert was one of my first computer games. It's also one of the few RTS games I've played quite a bit.

See specs.

Anyway, I have models/textures on high, water reflects everything, high shadows/shader, antiscopic x2, trilliniar filtering. res: 1024 x 768

I get 20+ fps. Usually 20-40 and I sometimes get 100 fps in office (very tight corridors). :O
