Any ideas why PS1 games look so bad on a PS2 or am I just imagining things? I never realized PS1 games were lacking so much anti-aliasing and texture filtering, but maybe father time has taken it's toll on games whose graphics I thought were pretty bad-ass at the time.

You can change texture filtering and disc speed in the PS2's driver menu, but that's about it, and it doesn't seem to improve much if it even works on some games.

So, my question is: are the graphics options for backwards compatibility any better on the PS3? Also, do PS1 games look any better viewed on a HDTV or is it worse?

That's how it is. You can't make something out of nothing.

While we're on the subject of compatibility, is the PS1/PS2 library fully compatible with PS3?

I'm considering picking one up for the exclusives. Got rid of my xbox a little while ago because... because.

I thought that PS2 games were only compatible with the old 80GB PS3 systems?

PS1 had awful aliasing issues and low polys out the wazoo, and even just the way it rendered 3D textures looks horribly dated now. That said some games actually look a bit better if you use a PC emulator (assuming you own the bios/games, of course).
