Question

Sorry if this has been discussed before.
I have a 5700 Ultra and it won't let me switch from directx8.1 to directx9 in css. Anyone know how to fix this?

Do you have DX9 or better? Shouldn't it automatically detect it?

Yea, 5700 Ultra supports it and i have it downloaded/installed.

All Nvidia FX card default to DirectX 8/8.1, Valve made this decision because the FX cards run best under DirectX 8. The FX cards do not have very good DirectX 9 performance at all.
However if you really wish to try and use DirectX 9, use this console command: mat_directx 90

Open the console and type one of these:

mat_dxlevel 90 (dx9)
mat_dxlevel 81 (dx8.1)
mat_dxlevel 70 (dx7) -- looks like a monkey turd.

There isnt much of an fps dfference between 9 and 8, but you will notice the visual diff. (possibly)
