Me and my friend want to play HL2 via LAN, but we was wondering if it would require 2 CDs to do so? Thanks in advance

You don't need CDs, but each of you need to have a legaly copy of the game registered on your Steam accounts.

Yes you can, you do not need two HL2s. Just install it onto his computer using your steam ID and logon. Then you can play all steam games LAN. But you cannot go online and connect to the same server.
