I have an Idea for a mod, I would like it to become very popular ect. But! Should I start coding, mapping ect, fot HL 1, or HL 2? I would love to have it for HL 2, but ive never coded in an engine before so how complex will it be? Compared to HL 1? What should i do?
 
well, my suggestion would be to learn as much as you possibly can about making stuff for hl1, as i heard they are going to make it pretty easy to mod hl2... dont worry about making anything really, just learn all the tools and things you need to know.. get the hl1 sdk and dig around some, do some research... that is the best thing you can do now until the hl2 sdk is released!

you should learn and read books and tutorials about coding and study the HL1 SDK and the HL2 SDK when it arrives. Before you do any actual coding on your mod. Start simple, learn the very basics, don't skip anything and move up slowly from there. Don't jump in the deep end with no knowledge of the simple stuff cause all the help you'll get at that point will assume you know all those things, and if you don't. Your stuck.
 
Ill just learn how to add menu's and weapns ect first? for HL 1 but nothing serious
