Okay, here's the deal.

Now that when you install HL2 it ties that CD key to your steam account, my question is this:

Let's say I go buy 1 copy of HL2 for 2 comps (my dads and mine). I install the game on my account and everything works fine. Now, can my dad install the game on HIS comp using my account? Or are we screwed and have to buy 2 copies (which is a bunch of BS if you ask me since he doesnt want to play counter-strike source at all).

I know what you're thinking though "why don't you play using the same account using turns?"

Well mainly because when we get it, we'll both want to play at the same time so there won't be any turns.

Anyways thanks in advance.

I think thats very possible. It seems feasible. I would send a PM/E-mail to Valve or Steam tech for confirmation though.

cant u play offline? like one of u play online and jsut one of u play offline? or how bout u both just play offline with the same account ? i really dont know how the whole offline thing works because i havnt even tryed doin anything on steam offline .

i might not know waht im talking about ... lol

We will play offline but you need to activate the game DURING the installation. I just want to know if you can use the same account or will it say something like "Cannot validate Hl2 because CD-key is in use by another account" or something like that.

you cant play with two steam accounts at the same time...so you would have to make two accounts with different cd keys. so two copies of HL2 id guess...which kinda sucks, but oh well..

i think u can login into steam wiht two computer at the same time because i did it a while back but u cant play games at the same time but if ur able to log in at the same time u think u can be able to play them offline ?

so, what you're saying is, you want to pirate the game, but you think valve sucks for not letting you do this?

Its the same basis as windows xp activation and norton 2004 activation.

Wtf are you talking about? I don't want to buy 2 copies of 1 game how is that pirating? People like you piss me off.

I'm buying 1 but wtf is the point of 2?

It's possible. I'm doing it right now for CS:S.

I can play CS:S online, on 3 machines, with the same log-in. I'm sure you will be OK. If not, install on one machine, reboot without internet, and see what happens. The disconnected machine should still be able to play.
At least, it works that way with CS:S.
It's funny that it works this way, as it easily explains why the warez copies of CS:S work, but I am seriously hoping that this situation does not apply once HL2 goes live. I bought 3 copies so that in the event anyone comes over and wants to LAN, we can, but if i did not have to spend that extra money....I guess almost 6 years making a game deserves the extra sales, if it is as good as they say.

Hold on lets think about this, (technical view not teh morality of it!)
If he is installing it on a second computer after installing it on one allready and wants to play them both offline then isnt this just the same as installing it on one computer and playing it then that computer dies on you so you buy/build another one and then reinstall the game.

If his idea wont work then this wont and that would mean you can only install the game once, I cant see that, can you?

The problem is when you buy the game, you're buying a single license. Installing software on two computers requires two licenses, if you are running the software at the same time.

it will work, chill out. i'm not even going to bother to explain, just watch and see.

ok? good... the end. moving on.
