I havent read through all of that but I was just thinking about the R480 ships coming out from ATI in the fall and that it will most likely have 512mb of memory.
I know that the new cards just came out and that most games dont need 256 of memory let alone 512 but does anyone know if the R480 chips are going to work with agp 8x or will they be PCI expsress only.
I was also wondering if 512mb will have any on the agp slot. IE the agp slot be to slow for it?
I also read someone that ati said "2005 is the time for SM3.0" Which im guessing will mean that their R480 chips might contain DX9.0c.
(off topic kinda but this is a interesting link comparing sm2.0b and sm3.0 Link)
Will ATI be able to keep its clock speeds so high when adding in SM3.0 or will the heat just be to much for the chip with the extra transitors.

I remeber telling someone that doom 3 was capped at 60FPS and they didnt believe me. The link at the top of the page explains that.
Another question I have had multiple emails about, yes the game is capped at 60fps for normal game play. For render demos, like what was used for the HARD OCP stuff, we run those at full tilt which is why you will see > 60fps.

Yeah, hopefully they will release the X800GT rather soon as well.
Nvidia should have a 512MB card later just like ATI.
Originally this last series was going to be the last AGP models but they might have prolonged that switch so hopefully they will make another AGP series.

I saw that link earlier today too. The X800pro and 6800GT tie in those tests at 1024x768 and at higher resolutions the 16pipeline card pulls away.

well im hoping that they have a 512mb version for agp because I wont be buying a new system untill longhorn is released in 2006.

gahh, somebody edited their post. :O

~~~
They are supposedly keeping AGP for another year or so, but they are pushing heavy for PCI Express. Unless they come up with a reason right now why PCI Express is better than AGP, nobody is going to upgrade to PCI express until their computer gets outdated.
Does anyone know if ati is increasing clock speed in the x800 xt this fall.
Will agp even allow another clock speed boost. It seems like the slot is at its limit as it is already. I would think that the x800s would tax the agp slot more then the 6800s. But what do I know.
what i was saying earlier is that, im paying 2k for a system th is summer, so i really hope it lasts more than a year. i wont upgrade for another 4-6 years minimum, with the new longhorn coming out, i doubt i need anything else than the OS software. unless longhorn is designed for pci shit, hey asus is the longhorn designed to optomize pciX? or will agp own on it too?
longorn should run on systems that people bought way back when p4's were first released maybee even befor that. I know I can get windows xp to run on a p2 450 256 ram and integrated graphics card with 18gb hard drive. AGP will definatly run on longhorn though. Microsoft wouldnt release a system unless it runs on 90% of the pcs out there. I dont remeber but I think microsoft said windows xp would be compatible with will over 90% of computers. Longhorn is optimized for dual core cpus. :thumbs: Going to be a nice operating system buy the looks of it. I also like how they changed the file, edit view...... toolbar on the top of the system. It looks much better in longhorn. Saddly though I rember hearing somewhere that longhorn would need a killer graphics card to run because of its new 3d interface.
Haas anyone had any experience with ATI's trade up program? Just wondering because I would hate to buy a card now with the fall refpresh of GPUs coming soon. Or anywhere I could sell a card if I ever decide to buy a new one?
from what i understand with the trad eupprogram u can onl yget 50 bucks off a certain select cards that ati allows u to trade for.
i dont i think u can get the x800xts for trade up. so gay.
Ya I looked at the trade up program more closely and it doesnt really seem like that good of a deal. I think it would just be easier to sell the old card on ebay for like %20 less the current market price (because its used) and then just use that money to buy a new one.
hey blackeye, if u sell on ebay and u dont sell the item reserve not met, do u still have to pay the sellers fee?
i dont get it, what if ur item constantly dosent sell, so u always have to pay about 7 bucks fees if u have a reserve price? to relist an item wtf is this bullshit ripoff.
Windows XP 64Bit Edition is coming later this year as an OEM product.
Longhorn will have both 32Bit and 64Bit versions.
It will work with any but with a graphics card (PCI,AGP,PCI-Express) as long as it's a DX9 card. I think DX9 is minimum spec.
DirectX 9 software is probably a minimum spec, since it will come with the operating system. I can't see how they could make an OS require a DX9 video card (GeForce FX / Radeon 9500 and later cards) to run. That's a very small section of the people that use Windows. Not everyone with a PC plays games on them, let alone games that require the power of a DX9 video card.
True but Intel, Nvidia and ATI all have DX9 hardware that they will be putting in desktops from Dell, HP and other Desktops.
2006 or 2007 is a few years off still.
DX7 I think will be the min for Hardware.
any links to screen shots?
i'd like to see what it looks like..
anyway as much as the idea of Longhorn sounds good...if u read up on the technology they are trying to implement, i don't think pple (especially gamers) will be too thrilled about it.
i don't have a link for it.. but used to.. :|
Im not sure its not my account its a friends and I would just get him to list it for me.
There is one thing I know will benefit gamers. Its a program in longhorn at automacially updates your games with the latest patches when your computer is idle. I think that will be a nice feature. Oh and dx10 with longhorn will be nice also. And the dual core proc and 64 bit edition. They will all benefit gamers if the games take advantage of such features.
So is doom 3 going to be the only game that supports 512mb of video memory?
Heres a link talking bout doom 3 video requirements. Link
Doom 3 is coming :bounce: :E :D
Hmmm looks like you can play it on Ultra Quality without a 512mb card, it will just run extremely choppy. Anyone know how much the 512mb cards will be when they are released?
Im guessing they will be $699 (candian) and then the xt 256 version will drop to $600-650 and the pro will drop to $499.
They will probably be released befor the holiday season maybee as early as november. But if ATI doesnt even have their X800XT 256 out yet how long do you think its going to take to get the 512 version.
Im probably being conservitive with the price though as I think it would get really expsensive to deliver a 512mb card.
Some rumors are saying that the R480's might be on a 0.11 micron process so we might see some higher clock speeds.
what would be good is it ATI can somehow mange to put PS 3.0 into the R480's achetecture.
They can but it means the chip will have more transitors and probably run a little hotter.
The X800XT PE has been out and has been shipping, just it isn't increasing in supply as it is hard to make them I guess and demand is still very high.
Once they get good at making them we will see them in greater numbers. The X800pro is out in numbers (compared to the X800XT PE and 6800 chips).
I know its shipping it even says on ATI's website but its starting to piss me off. I was told a month ago that it would be in withing a week. Then I go back and they are like o now its end of july now. And then I called them yestarday and they said shipping in 32 days.
Someone tell me im not the only one going insane.
