No name blooger for the Houston, Texas paper calls out, Resident Evil 5 and Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood (pic at left) as well as the in-development Left 4 Dead 2.

This article is floating around game sites and some politic sites as a news source and thats what pisses me off. His thoughts his blog = opinion not facts.

How that translates into racism is unfathomable.
 
Hmm, his comments aren't too hateful towards Valve and L4D2. Seems to be just provoking opinion for the sakes of an argument. The article is called 'Racism in video games' so that incorrectly categorises L4D2 since he blames Valve for tasteless content in regards to hurricane Katrina, not racism specifically.

Meh...clutching at straws to make his point.

The game that really inspired this blog entry was Ubisoft's "Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood." The game starts out with players assuming the role of Ray, a Confederate officer, working to save his brother, Thomas, who's pinned down by Union soldiers. I nearly dropped the controller. I have so much respect for President Lincoln -- he wanted to preserve the Union and ended up freeing the slaves -- and have just as much respect for the Union Army.

I saw we take black people completely out of every game made from now on. That way we can avoid the whole "IN THIS GAME YOU KILL A BLACK GUY THATS SO ****ING RACIST!" shit. If anyone calls us racist for not including black people, then we can turn it back on them and call them racist for wanting us to include black people for them to kill.

This. It's one big circle of stupid people! The L4D2 comments were especially stupid and the writer probably felt very proud of himself for deciding something is racist.

Decided to read the rest of this and I gotta say, this guy is an idiot. Left 4 Dead 2 isn't about hurricane Katrina! And Resident Evil. What color are zombies in Africa supposed to be? Making them white would be just as bad as having them Black. Worse, even. If they were white, it could be interpreted as racism. Why is it more okay to kill whites than blacks? And the Civil War is something that happened. People are gonna make games about it, and what difference does it make if you play as a Confederate soldier or a US soldier? You still have The same sides fighting each other. What a tool.
 
I can sorta see his point about L4D2. To make a video game about some terrible occurrence that destroys the city, not long after a real terrible occurrence actually destroyed the city killing thousands of people, is a bit edgy on the politically correct scale. Its obviously not racist at all, so the guy is still an idiot, and there have been a plethora of video games that include terrorist attacks on US cities since 9/11 and there wasnt much rage about that.

Considering white people have been outnumbered for most of recorded history and usually in the more prosperous countries... doubtful.

Aids? You're not serious I hope. Though maybe you are and white people die from aids much more than black people! I guess that's why most of the focus isn't on Africa.


And puhlease. WW1 and WW2 while terrible, don't even begin to compare to the amount of deaths that third world countries face due to famine, genocide, etc. Tens of millions died, yes... but that still pales in comparison to long histories of the aforementioned problems.
 
How can he say that "Liberty City is an awesome place" after it was based on New York who suffered the 9/11 attacks. You have Niko terrorising people, you can plant a bomb on a bus and blow it up, how is that "awesome" If Valve had decided not to include blacks in New Orleans they would get classed as racist for a omitting them especially when it has a large black population the same with Capcom and Resident Evil 5.

He says that killing the Japanese with Flame-throwers and killing Nazis is fine yet killing Yanks in the Civil war is wrong, somehow i don't think the Japanese and Germans would see it that way.
 
I'm not prejudice, I murder them equally. Although, if there was a black Nazi zombie, I would probably prioritize the target over an ordinary black zombie. Is that wrong? What if I was listening to White Zombie at the same time?
 
So this is essentially an article justifying why this fellow always team switches to the US when playing CoD games, because it'd be morally reprehensible to play as Nazis, Arabs or Japanese?

I hate people like that. Screws up team balance.

Articles like this are never going away. No matter what a developer chooses to do, he/she will be criticized to no end. "Not enough black people in this game, YOU'RE RACIST!"..."Too many black people in this game, YOU'RE RACIST!".

Can't wait to see the fallout when Rockstar decides to include kids and dogs in their next game.
 
if the thread title read "Racism in video gamers" then I'd agree but it's not so I dont agree. he's just clutching at straws.

now back to the racist gamers ..why is gaming out any other hobby or sport I've ever been involved the one with most racist/dumb attitudes? I like to think it's the guns ..it's draws in a certain element but that doesnt account for stupidity or racism outside of first person shooters. it cant be age because gamers ages vary so much. so what the hell is it? why are so many gamers racist and or dumb?

disclaimer: obviously a lot of gamers do not fall into this stereotype
 
So this dumb **** enjoys killing ENEMIES OF 'MERICA but when you have to be a confederate it's out of the question. This mother****er has down syndrome.

However, the Confederacy, as far as I am concerned, wanted to keep their cheap slave labor and the like. I can not stand the Confederate flag -- I resist the urge to burn every last one that I see. To me, the flag represents hate -- and offends me and many others to no end. And to play a game, where I don't have a choice to be on the losing side -- and one I detest -- made me wonder how much research Ubisoft did for this game.
