A german gaming print magazine Gamestar.de reports that ATI plans to bundle Half-Life 2 with its new Radeon 9900.

This speaks against the release speculation, because the offical GOLD release is set to be the 13th of September. More info on that will be revealed by the magazine itself.

The article is in German, so just use your translator.

interesting, doubt its gonna happen though

I'll probably not have enough $$$ to get the 9900 pro, but it means the price for the 9700 and 9800's will fall right away .. excellent

EVERYTHING COSTS TOO MUCH ;[

450$ for radeon 9700 pro (shipping and everything) is just too damn much.

I for one think that they may bundle HL2 with the 9900, but I don't believe that Gamestar.de could even know the exact date of HL2 going GOLD.

Where do you look for computer hardware?
I've seen 9800 Pros for $330 (including shipping) on a few different sites..

Then again, why would they say "Sept. 13" .. did they just think of it at random? I'm sure they talked to somebody at Valve.

That magazine always had exclusive videos for different games, etc. I think they are right. Remember HL1? I think Nvidia did the same thing, they had Half-life: Day One demo on there.

But if I get a new computer then I dont wan't to go through the hassle to install the card :(

What I meant by that was... it may just be Valve's target day for HL2 to go gold.

On Sept. 13 be sure to check: http://www.gonegold.com

Hassle? It takes like 15 minutes! Ive done it like 10 times. (one of the few things i can do involving hardware.)

Yeah but....hmm...I though the computer already had a VID card and I dont wanna pay extra for it.

Radeon 9900? Well, I don't need it. "Cause I have a P5 4.0 GHz, 5000 MB DDR Ram and a GeForce 6. :)
(Sarcasm)

mine either, but i dont care cause it runs things perfectly

all i know is im getting a 9800 pro with 256 ram right after prices start to fall

prices should drop for the 9800 when the 9900 comes out (which is when im gonna get my 9800 pro)

Hmm, should it? Well, you have to ask yourself: Did the 9900 really exist?(Rehtoricle question)

Well I hope the Radeon 9800 drops a lot cause its way too expensive for me now. Right now I'm planning on getting the ATI Radeon 9600 Pro. Thats still a pretty good card right?

the 9500pro is a better card if you can find one.

indeed... altho you should be able to clock a 9600 higher and reach even performance, but that doesn't make up for its lack of features

wtf? you sound angry. Maybe in 1 year you might see a difference with the 9800 pro to the 9900 pro, but right now and + you dont need a 9900pro...if you have a good system, say P4 2.2GHz or Athlon 2200+ and 1024ddr with a 9800pro, i doubt you would see a difference in hl2 with the exact same system and a 9900 pro. maybe 5-10fps at the most, but your not going to get a better picture than you will with a 9800pro, the brand new cards are just so damned good.

maybe they are adding something special to the 9900 pro and not just up'ing clock speeds but with hl2, like i said, no difference.

considering how good of a card the 9700pro and 9800pro are its not worth getting a 9900 pro the week it comes out.

how would you know...

I searched all over ati's website I see NO INFO at all about a 9900 pro...

because its common sense dude..

if someone had a 9800pro and heard the 9900 pro was coming out, if they bought a 9900 pro right before hl2, just for hl2, it would be freaking stupid as hell. That would be like paying $400-$600(?) for no performance difference at all, or barely any.

What are you guys talking about?! It takes like 30 seconds for me to put the videocard in. It's the easy part. Just slip it into the agp slot and then connect an extra power cord if needed.

Well i meant the whole nine yards. Opening the case, replacing the card, closing the case, hooking everything up, installing the drivers, and restarting.

Plus after that you have to power up and d/l the latest drivers then reboot again- thats probly 2 min  :cheese:

Um, you guys need to remember the 9900 is a rumor. We have seen no benchmarks for the graphics card. For all we know that 9900 Pro could end up being %50 or %75 percent better. So, stop making stupid comments. And It wouldn't be stupid to buy the card, because the next year are so you could run all the High-tec games....I.E Doom 3 et.c

How silly to see people saying they know how a 9900 pro will perform when it has not even been announced by ati that it is being created yet. You have no facts about the cards hardware specs. You have no idea if they will continue to use the 9X00 names anymore. You dont know when the next ati card will ship. You cant honestly think the next generation of ati cards will perform the same as the current generation...

When a 9900 ati card comes out then you can compare speed/quality to current cards.

Fact is you know nothing and all of that was pure opinion.

I dont know why I care I am too poor to buy a 9800 :( I still use an 8500

Yes, exactly as I was saying.

ATI is lengthening their product cycle (the time they keep upgrading the current cards until they release the next wave of cards) from 18 months to 24 months (nVidia is staying at 18 months from what I have read)... so the next card they release will probably be another Radeon 9000 series card.

Will ATI be able to keep up with (or stay ahead of) nVidia if they start taking an extra 6 months? Hopefully, they will spend the extra time to see what nVidia does with their next cards and "kick it up a notch."

there's nothing wrong with an 8500 buddy... I've still got mine, and don't expect an upgrade until towards the end of the year; you can call yourself brave (yup) if you're still in this category, willing to take a chance on the upcoming games with lower-end hardware; I bet you take that 8500 for granted.. fact is, it's still a great piece of silicon, and along with a powerhouse proc/mem it will probably do very well in HL2; sure, it would be a bottleneck, but that doesn't mean it's not going to run nicely

The lack of features of the 9600 or the 9500? What makes the 9500 better? Not trying to say the 9600 is better, I just don't know anything about the 9500. I don't know if it makes it that much better, but I want to get the 9600 Pro not just 9600.

dont worry about it too much, im still stuck way the hell back here on an nvida TNT2. thank god i can still play most of the current games, they just look really crappy....i cant wait till i get my new system

So yea, they're saying HL2 will go GOLD on Sept 13.

Sorry just had say that, so the mods don't take this as a hardware thread (which is what ended up happening) and end up moving it to the Hardware forum. :)

i'll believe anything when i see it ;)
So no speculating for me until september 13th.

btw... gf2gts still here... buying me a 9900 pro at the end of this year when/if it comes out... not that ppl care much :p
