I thought Doom 3 was supposedly "nVidia's game", and supposed to have the "the way it's meant to be played". Did something happen to that contract? and this recent rumour control at gamespot says that buying a radeon might give you a free copy of Doom3?

Sorry if this has been posted before.

Erm

No.

They can sponser two different games, if they can afford it. I mean, why not? Why have an equal playing ground with NVidia? Why not sponser both.

It came from Rage3d, so i wouldn't believe it. It would be interesting if they are, it means that Doom3 is given away for free with both Nvidia and Ati graphics cards.

I find the rumor about hl2 better!

RUMOR #3: Half-Life 2 is only two weeks away from completion. Really. They mean it this time.

Source: Valve Software fan site hl2world.

The official story: E-mails to Valve PR director Doug Lombardi and the e-mail address on the post got no responses.

What we heard: On Tuesday, a frequent hl2world forum-poster and self-described "1337 d00d" started a thread with an audacious claim--that he personally had contacted Valve head Gabe Newell to ask about the progress of Half-Life 2. Less believable was the poster's claim that Newell wrote back and told him that, "At our current rate of find/fix bugs, we'll be down to zero bugs in 16 days." If true, that would mean that the infamously delayed shooter "might go gold at around the fifth of August." Normally, it would be easy to dismiss such posting to the overactive imagination of a PC gamer driven mad by the stranger-than-fiction story of Half-Life 2's development. However, the reputable news crew at Shacknews.com confirmed the story with Newell (who speaks to them regularly), all but legitimizing the story.

Bogus or not bogus?: Not bogus, although whether Valve makes that deadline is a whole other matter...

NOT BOGUS!!! w00t..that would be awsome if it went gold then.

I just bought an x800Pro and it didn't do too well compared to the 6800 and 6800 Ultra on Doom's testing. I'm a bit upset but maybe this means they'll work a little harder with the ATI hard/soft ware in order to increase performance..

Oh come on man, it will still be more than enough!

Very strange, I can't see it being true really, and if it is it might only be a specific retailer thing.

Have you forgotten that DooM3 was developed on Nvidia hardware, and that nvidia can run openGL based games better? Ati is better for direct3d.

Valve just said they'd be down to zero bugs by the 5th August (estimate). And even if they do, HL2 might still be not gold untill valve thinks it is (they might decide to give a final texture re-buff, even after clearing bugs - you never know). So those thinking of reading a joyous news of HL2 gone gold, don't put your hopes high.

About what vigilante said, i'm not doubting that Valve can make that 16 day 0 bug claim, but just because they do make the date doesn't mean it could go gold. It's just 16 days until an RC with what's believed to have 0 bugs is shipped off to Vivendi so they can do their own thing with it. If Vivendi finds problems with it, then Valve has more work to do.

But don't get me wrong, i don't believe this August 5th gold crap either. I'm looking at september, mostly because of CS:S, which i think shouldn't hold back HL2. But it's valve's decision, oh well...

I agree with this man, christ sakes ritual! your at least able to play the game at 1024 x 768 with AA and AF - there are still people clinging on to Geforce 2's who are placing their bets weather they'd even hit 640 x 480 or not...

Besides, x800 is pretty good with direct X games, so you'll at least have slightly better performance with your x800 on HL2 than with a 6800.

The plot thickens. But I'll give you a hint. Think, profit margins. ;)

Oh, comon, how can you even think that the doom3 on ATI is even true
1st, ATI cards have lesse performance then Nvidie based cards in DOOM³, so it wouldn't be a great idea to sell the game with those facts

2th, they already have a deal with Nvidia, and knowing Nvidia, I am pretty damn sure they have had "id software" sign a contract stating they can't sell their game with the competition (ATI)

evil where u come from

ATi wouldn't dump Valve, especially so close to the release. The game is debuting ATI's 3Dc technology, it would be stupid to just 'up and go'.

so with this apparent deal.. can we expect Ati cards to run Doom3 a bit better than we had originally hoped? hmm...

I'd expect that at least there's a driver update for increased OpenGl support.

I just read the forum discussion about it, and it sounds like EBGames in Australia is simply giving away Doom 3 when you buy the cards. It's not a deal between ATI and ID; it's just something from EB Aus.

Yeah was just going to add my part, i saw this at eb today in sydney (aus) that if you buy a x800 you get a copy of doom3 free or if you get a x600 you get $50(30usd) off a copy of doom 3. I think its just an eb deal thingy nothing to do with sponsorship or the likes.
