Radeon

They are the new chipset, next Generation cards. Thats a good idea.

I don't know when they will come out ;( sorry.

Actually, they'll most likely be PCIexpress.. for BTX systems :|

Is there any difference between a 9600 XT 128 and a 256? I can't find the 256 on the ati site so I does it even exist?

DON'T buy a card now, wait untill next month when the new ones come, the current ones will drop in price, and there will be new ones out.

I don't like overclocking...what is the difference between XT and pro? Also are they lieing about the 9600 XT 256?

So the XT is better but it costs a little more? I also get HL2 for free with the XT.

Yep, those are the main reasons, but don't buy it now, wait untill the prices drop and the new cards come out.

Wait....for...new...cards... youll save about 100$.

You think the Radeon 9600 XT 256 will drop down to $100?

I don't want to wait 6 months for a new card to come out either, I have games now that need a boost in FPS.

It is like $400 now, it will probably go down to $300 right? I don't want to spend that much on a card. When are these new cards suppose to come out?

iirc the convention where they will be released is held march 18th. So a bit after that.

Ok I guess I will wait then, but those prices damn well better drop...or I will throw a brick at something.

I don't see a need for it really, and I don't like the idea that I can screw up my card doing it.

And when prices do drop you'll probably be able to pick up a 9800 pro, which still gets like 10 FPS more than the 9600 XT. Different core technology and archatecture and stuff. And they'll probably drop in price soon after the next generation graphics cards are unveiled.

XT cards have higher clock speeds, and higher ram speeds... which translates into a few totally unnoticable FPS. its really for nothing more than bragging rights.

an important question that no one really answered is whats the difference between the 128 mb versions of cards and the 256. dont get a 256 cards unless you want 1) bragging rights or 2) high performance video encoding/very high intensive graphics stuff, like modeling and rendering. other than that, there are no games available that will take advantage of that much ram... its a waste of money.
