Will ID Software's new game "Rage" be one of the latest games to use Steamworks? The people over at Shacknews think so:

I personally wouldn't be surprised if it did use Steamworks, already 2 titles under Zenimax's wing are making the switch to Steamworks. And lead designer Matt Hooper did state to Shacknews that he "thinks people will be pleased with the direction we're going," with regards to DRM. Between Securom and Steamworks, I'd definitely take Steamworks.

Im still confused as to how a game on Steam differs from a game with Steamworks. I thought most of those features listed for Steamworks were already available with a normal Steam release.

Not unexpected, I guess, considering FO NV and Brink are also using it.

Steamworks games are the ones like Metro 2033, Modern Warfare 2 and Valve games that require Steam to play and take advantage of steam features like stats tracking and such. All the other games on Steam just use to for sales and downloading without any of the other features.

Wouldn't be surprising, as a whole array of games are being implemented with Steamworks nowadays. The number has substantially increased over the years.

To require Steam? REALLY?

i GUESS THIS IS THE END, MY FRIENDS. Resistance is futile.
