I finally settled on some parts for my upgrade, and even though it's a Mercedes to the Rolls Royce I was originally planning for, I'm certainly not complaining. I've got an AMD Athlon64 3200+, Asus K8V-Deluxe, WD 120GB SATA/8MB cache HDD and a nice case on order, but I'm not sure about RAM yet.

I know I want Corsair PC3200 (DDR400 no?) with a low CAS rating (2.5/2 preferably), but I've got a silly question. Would Dual-Channel optimised RAM run any better than normal RAM in a non-dual channel situation? There is an obvious answer right in front of my nose, but I figured there's a small chance I might be surprised :)

Thank you to anyone able to provide me with some information.

It will not make a difference, if you are not overclocking then standard ram (like Corsair value or Crucial) is absolutely fine.

dual channel will give you a boost in performance. but how much i dont know

It won't give a performance boost when the motherboard does not support it...
