I have Windows XP Home Edition and I was wondering how I can access information about my 2 RAM slots and the RAM chips that are in there. I have searched myself and can't really find anything that is laid out for the more "common" PC man.
My reason for this is because I recently replaced my original 256 MB RAM (PC 2100) with a newer 512 MB stick (for a total of 1024MB RAM DDR SDRAM). Upgraded from 768 to 1Gb. however, HL2 seems to load slower and run a bit choppier. I have a RAdeon 9600XT 128MB, catalyst drivers 4.12b. i know RAM shouldn't make a huge difference, (my friend went from 512 to 1024 and had Huge performance increase; he has a GeForce FX5200, by all my knowledge a slightly worse card than my 9600XT), but it's the fact that now i seem to be running HL2 worse.
my concern is I bought the wrong kind of RAM and for some reason it [HL2] is not reading the other 512 stick. I'm guessing this because whenever i make the -heapsize greater than 512, HL2 won't launch, claims it cannot "read" memory. I'm worried the 2 sticks arent compatible and I want to check what my old stick is without opening the computer.
