RAM removal

I just bought a new computer with 512MB RAM, but the old also had 512 MB but I bought another 512MB to put in there.
Now my question, Can I take the extra 512 MB RAM out of the old one and put it in the new one without screwing up my old one?

Your answer will be highly appreciated.
Thx

Yes.

Make sure the ram is the same speed or else the faster ram will run at the same speed as the slower ram.

You mean if there are 2x256mb, that the one from 512 wil run at 256?

Don't even attemp to mess with your own hardware if a) you need to ask incredibly simple questions like that, or b) you think 256mb is the speed of the RAM.

It depends on what type of ram there is in the old comp and the new comp. It also depends on the FSB of your new and old CPU. Alot of if's.

Look, RAM has speeds. The yesterday fastest was, what, 400 mhz? Put that in to dual channel (Two memories running at the same time at that speed), and you get 800. Today there's even faster sticks of memory.

Anyway, if your new motherboard supports dual channel, then you might want to put in the old ram anyway, because you'll still probably get it to run faster.

Thanks Maxikana and Dead-Inside.It does have dual channel so I'll put the old memory in(its not that old, just of figure of speech)
