CR%*P SH$T DAMMIT! DIE! DIE! DIE YOU EVIL HARDDISK CRASH DEMONS!

Bought myself a maxtor 160GB harddisk 2 months ago, was busy messing around in hammer, looking at my new map wich was starting to look decent, when suddenly ... "TICK" ...
I look down at my box, but can't hear the evil sound again, so I pretend nothing happened. About 10 seconds later ... "TICK"...
Now I'm having a hard time ignoring it, but still manage to, untill ... "TICK TICK TICK GRRRRRBBRRRRRR TICK TICK"...mouse frozen, nothing reacts ... a terrible feeling spreads through my mind. Hold the power button for 4 seconds, reboot ...

... more "TICK TICK GBRRR" :x ->

I'm losing it...all my files, all my stuff, GONE! GONE I TELL YOU! AAAARGH!!!
I'm typing from my second rig, at least I've got this baby left. Now I have to reinstall everything before the 16th. Wich means I'll be doing nothing else. I wanted to spend my pc-time mapping.

DAMN YOU HARD DISK CRASH DEMONS! DAMN YOU! SEE YOU IN HELL!!! :flame: :flame: :flame:

Ouch man.. That really sucks...

I had my harddrive formatted without room for backup before.. All my savegames.. My drawings.. Games.. Stuff...

I think it was the only time I just sat and cried in front of my computer.. ;(

wow.. looks like the boogie man sneezed ur HD. :(
now u will need Pi to come over and cleanse the place free of the boogie man :p

Well, if it makes you feel better, that stuff wouldn't have been there forever anyhow. :(

I'm still pissed as hell. So many holliday pictures, jokes, e-mails, information, links, tools, old retro games, fine-tuned settings, music, movies, all that is gone. I'm so pissed you can't believe it.

I was just done making dynamic lights on my map. It was looking so good. I had the water done, a cool bridge, I had a piece of the building going over the water, it was so neat. Gone.

Everything is gone. And it's not really sinking in yet. I know one of these days I'm going to be needing the things that were on it. And I won't have them. Everything was so organised ... I had nice directory structures, I never needed to search my files. I have a few things on cd, but not much really.

Thanks for cheering me up a little everyone ...

Yeah. I hear dat. My 120gb crashed in march. Almost all my email, personal files, documents, drawn/photoshopped pics, pr0n, DL'd videos, 1500+ mp3's, software, and 3500+ digital photo's, gone.

None of it was worth anything to me monetarily (no work material, etc), I couldn't easily justify the $700 estimate I'd seen for a hard-drive recovery service... I had plans to open it up and **** with it, even bought a special screwdriver for $11 Never got around to it, it's still sittin on my desk though... Waiting..

I've had lots of fun with harddrive platters. The most memorable memory was melting a harddrive platter. My friend is a ceramics major and we used a kiln (basically an oven that gets very hot) and we melted it. We never could get the harddrive surface platter to melt, but we got the tin to melt on the inside of the platter. That was fun.

Maxtors aren't very reliable, it is a new hardrive so just return it.

Get a Western Digital or Seagate, Never had a Seagate fail, had a Western Digital fail, but everyone says WD is a better choice.
