Ok, this is a pure rant, I am just venting steam.

A friend of mine got dead space for the PC, and I asked him how it is, because I was interested in "obtaining" it myself for the PC. He said it was dreadful, and told me several things he disliked about the game, then he said. "the graphics suck" even saying it was worse than doom 3.

Then I argued that while you may not like the game, from a pure technical standpoint, it the graphics dont necessarily suck, so something on your side must be wrong. Such as low res, low settings, w/e

Then a different friend bumps in and starts raging at me how no matter what, its all opinionated. But I said how can i possibly be opinionated when I am arguing from the graphical technical stand point of the game? I told him if I was arguing something like graphic art direction, or style, opinionated might be a viable argument, but here it was completely inapplicable.

Then my friend as usual starts raging and says I dont want to argue anymore and just drop it, even though he started the whole argument for no freaking reason.

This friend of mine always argues on opinionated, even with things that cant possibly be opinionated, such as an extreme made up example as followed. A solid huge chunk metal being pliable, and its merely up to opinion on whether it is or not.

This friend, whenever an argument takes a bad turn for him, or he is proven wrong, just will start raging with "you wont stop arguing, just drop it". This gets really irritating.

Solution: Your friend is a stupid, oh wai-

At least he didn't bring religion into it. I used to be friends with a kid, no matter what the argument it would come back to god. I'd always tell him to prove that god is real.

Guy sounds like Hitler.

Bam, Godwin's, now we can close this thread.

i was once punched because i took the mickey out of mario "itsa me, mario!"

I think dead space wasnt great it it's art direction either. But yeah, from a technical standpoint, its top notch.

Also, get better friends who aren't idiots.

This friend of mine is the typical type that has outbursts and is a bit too hyperemotional, whether it be happy, sad, angry, or jealous. He lacks self control, and can be really unreasonable =(

just put a gun on his forehead and say "you will not stop arguin when you say so! understand that!!??"

When I come back from days away from this dump, I realize I missed nothing.

Carry on HL2.net.

So, you want us to bend his leg the wrong way or something?

My Dad is actually like this... But it's obvious... he thinks Zelda: Ocarina of Time has the best graphics ever, ever. I showed him Crysis and said "Lawl, ur a moron." and he's all lyk "OMG ZLDA IS WAY GRAPHICALLER!" and I wuz lyk "NUH UH, BITCH!"

So I kicked him in the balls so that he wouldn't spawn any more victims to his stupidity into the world.

And thats what you should do. Go cut your friend's balls off. You'll do the world a favor.

I'm not kidding about my Dad thinking Zelda is the best graphics, btw.

lol who the hell gets actually pissed about real life arguments about if the graphics in Dead Space are good or not. Man, grow a pair.

Of testicles.

Then remove them and place them on your head.

This has no purpose, btw. I just want to see if you'll do it.

Amusing conversation for me today:

Random girl: Why... why do guys like big boobs?

10 minutes of amusement ensued

Well, its mere fact that he is so quick to declare ANYTHING opinionated. It can be games, as this example was, or it can be anything. I just happen to be venting about this specific one.

I have a friend who thinks Half-Life 2 is "ugly." Not ugly by today's standards... ugly by 2004 standards. He formed this opinion based off screenshots, because he hasn't played Half-Life 2.

According to him, the buildings look "blocky" and it looks like it's "10 years old" (interestingly, the first Half-Life came out about 10 years ago). I told him that many reviews of the game at the time either praised the graphics or at least acknowledged that they were good, and even showed him articles from some tech websites, but he refused to believe them and said ALL the reviews were "biased."

It was incredibly frustrating. I actually think he has a weird, subconscious, unfounded personal hatred of all Half-Life games. He was raving about how awesome the caves in Gears of War were since they had pretty shiny gold stuff, so I suggested he play Episode Two since it has a cave with pretty glowy blue stuff.... but he refuses to even try playing it.

I have a friend like this. Other than that, and his lack of humility, and his condescending tone, and his superiority complex, and his aggressive personality, he's an alright guy.

We've all got friends with stupid opinions. If you don't, you're the stupid friend. Someone is probably making a thread about you right now to a bunch of people who don't know you and ultimately don't care.

Or go to the reeeeeeeeeeeeeeal extreme and knock him the **** out.

Lol please don't i was only joking.

Lemme just say first off, I hate this kind of argumentative/dismissive attitude, where someone will fight you on a topic to the point where they know they don't have a leg to stand on, then just write the whole thing off as a "matter of opinion;" or even worse, say something like "it doesn't even matter anyway," implying that you're too invested in the argument and they're somehow the bigger man (which is never the case). Thankfully I keep better company now, but I grew up with several friends and a sister just like this, so it annoys me to no end.

However:

Oh really?

Sorry, but from what you've told us, it sounds like you're the aggressor here. Also, saying something as general as "the graphics suck" could mean anything, it really sounds like you're the one who made the distinction between technical and artistic direction. In that case it really would be just a matter of opinion, since in essence all he's stated is that he didn't like it. I wouldn't be surprised if your friends just blew you off because they couldn't be bothered debating video game semantics.

In any case:

Probably the best advice in the thread. Just be content with the fact that your friends have poor taste and can't even defend their views when pressed and move on.

Let me clarify by going into a bit detailed explanation of what happened.

First by saying 2 other people involved. One who told me he didnt enjoy the game. Another who told me everything is opinion based.

When he told me the graphics suck, I merely told him that its not possible, that Dead Space is a "next gen" (new console) game in terms of visuals. So I asked him if his settings were wrong, or if it was an fps issue, or mouse delay that was making him believe the "graphics suck".

This is when the second friend abruptly joins in, and tells me its other people's opinion to think the graphics are bad. I proceeded to tell him while this may be true in terms of art direction or graphical direction, you cannot possibly be opinionated and say a game has bad graphics from a technical stand point, when it is very 100% clear that it is not. But he insisted that "everything" is an opinion and that I am wrong to say the graphics are good in the game.

I dont see how I am the aggressor when I was merely explaining how the "graphics" dont suck, and I am attacked labeled by my friend, as he usually does as one who tries to "impose my opinions on others" when it is perfectly clear there is no opinion based comment that I made.

There is a reason for men being atracted to big breasts btw.
Suitable spouse for breeding purposes. She can feed babies well.

Sounds exaclty like my brother/father, pretty much the same person though.
