Okay, here is my rant.
I can't stand it when my friend claims he can touch type (touch typing is where you can type without looking). He claims he can do it, but always gives loads of spelling errors.
Now, here is the thing. Surely, if your looking at the screen, you can spot errors that you make and you can rectify them? I could understand someone who does not touch-type and makes errors, but this is riduculous. I've started to ignore him now when what he says is unreadable. He sometimes claims its slang, but its beyond that.

Rant over.

Well I sometimes touch type (like now), it's really not that hard tbh. Although I do make a lot of mistakes lol :D (Five in this case)

I can also understand people making mistakes, but for you, you changed them. This guy on my list doesn't.

I don't really touch type, I glance back and forth. I'm not very god at typing, to be honest. But I still manage to correct most mistakes that I make. Hell, I usually can tell when I make a mistake without ever seeing the screen. I think your friend just wants to say he can touch-type so he botches it just to say he's a touch-typist.

I can touch type, but I make a good few mistakes. Strangly, I can usually tell when I make a mistake and correct it without looking too.

This is all touh typing with no errors except that one with the touh thing cuz it's mean t to be touch lol and that second one.

This is touch-typed. I have so far only made 1, make that 2 mistakes that I have corrected. If there are more thats becouse my grasp in english could be better due to it being my second language. Btw, thats 4 mistakes by this point, make that 5.

U'm touycg ttypunbg this without looking. Damn it's fgillref eiyth rttotd :p
I'm touch typing this without looking. Damn it's filled with errors :p

Im actually pretty good at it and pretty fast. And I have an AZERTY key board, beat that mother fukers !

I do it all the time, that's why alot of my posts on the forum are riddled with spelling mistakes. Sometimes I spot them and Edit the post but other times I just leave them on accident. I don't even realise I'm doing it sometimes.

lol i am touch typing this i rock i dont think i have made any errors it all feels right

I touch type 99.99% of the time, and I usually spot errors and correct them fluidly as I'm doing so. I guess I've had a lot of practice :p

It really depends on if I care about being lazy or not, which is why sometimes I type like I am now and sometimes I disregard punctuation and capitalization completely.

I really don't think its that hard... I've typed all this without looking at the keyboard with no errors. Of course, I am a programmer for a living, so I *SHOULD* be good at typing :D Oh, still no errors :D

It's something that you adapt to after a long time on forums and msn.
I look at the keyboard to start first letter (i don't use the dots) sometimes i type whilst looking at the tv behind me.

Are you guys talking about typing and not looking at the keyboard? Because I do that all the time. Or are you talking about not even looking at the screen. Because I typed all this without looking at the keyboard, and only made one mistake, which was fixed in .02 seconds.

EDIT: Ok, 2 mistakes.

No full stop at the end of your sentence, Mr. I'm-so-smart.

Woo, I'm touch-typing. It's so difficult :/

I even hit that slash without looking, wtf.

I thought this topic was going to be about Chuck Palahniuk's new book...

I type quite well and hardly ever make mistakes.

In this case, only 2 mistakes, I missed the q on quite and mixed up the i and m on mistakes

I consider touch-typing using the home row, but I am not looking at the keyboard while typing this, and so far no errors have been made - but I do not use the home row. In fact, most of my keyboard is under my desk. I can only see the spacebar from where I sit right now :O

Most of the errors I make are thinking errors, because I can type faster than I can think in most cases.

Here's the position of my keyboard as I type this post :O

It's pretty crazy though...I don't even have to look to get started. Even if I'm at a completely new keyboard setup, it just feels natural. My fingers just find the keys. God damnit, now that I'm actually thinking about typing I'm making mistakes :(

What I can't handle is those ergonomic keyboards. Some people in my office have them, and I'm a disaster on them. I feel embarrased even typing with them because I pride myself in being quite fast, but typing on those I feel like I'm in the 6th grade again.

I mainly touch type, just at the start when I'm typing, I glance down to see where my hands are on the keyboard, and then I start from there.

No errors, so far.

Typing became a sort-of second nature to me loooong ago... I don't even think about not looking, and I don't really make many typos either!

But the point is this;
This guy reckons he can touch type, so if he is looking at the screen, surely he can spot the errors and correct them?

We're well past that point. Your friend is an idiot, that's for sure. Now we're just bloating our e-penii :p

BTW shouldn't your sig be "pick up that trash can", not "pick it up that trash can"?

Yes, he surely can, making him a bit of a nub if he doesn't.

For example, right there, I typed 'doepsn't' due to my fat fingers but I corrected it.

Personally, I owe my touch-typing skills to the wonderful game Typing of the Dead, which is both fun and educationa ARGH ARGH A ZOMBIE

Thanks to you French bastards, Belgium has it too :(

This is all touch-typed, without any faults. I'm pretty good at it.

i am touch typing this without looking and it feels like its going well so far. Perhaps I have typied long enough to be able to easily do this without messing up a lot.

That went well.

You see, thats an example of what he would do. He would quite reguarly type that, and he would know it, but doesn't bother changing it.

Bleurgh. Bad form in language is a plague, unless it's done deliberately for an artistic purpose or unless blahblahblahblah.

Hey, Insano, I ain't seen you around here in a while. In fact, it were just the other day I were thinking 'funny, wonder where Insano, formerly Insane, went.'

I've touch-typed often, usually when I'm watching tv and posting here :p

Can't touch type without looking at the screen, ah well better than nothing i guess! :D

Find it much easier using a laptop keyboard to touch type with than with a standard keyboard. Dunno just prefer the proximity of the keys and the gentle tapping that occurs while typing :O

Made a few mistakes then but corrected them all. You can't really claim to be able to touch type if you are making a lot of errors and don't even bother to go back and correct them

Fools!

I just typed this post blindfolded. I don't believe I have made any mistakes. And by blindfolded I mean with my eyes closed :|

But yea, now I will hit reply and see if I made any mistakes. LET'S SEE! THIS IS EXCITING!

ok then now its my turn.

woor fo me

edit
*translation*

Ok then, now it's my turn.

Woot go me.

Ooo, I can touch type without even touching!!!1111 OMG leet.

I hardly ever look at my fingers when typing unless i'm typing on my laptop. The keyboard on that thing is so scunched together, it's hard to type on.
