Rape!?

i wasnt trying to be funny, i was proving a point. If there were two women, standing in a park. One was wearing a mini skirt and one was wearing a tight pair of jeans, he would go for the one that would take less of a struggle. that is if he wanst stalking the other one and was only interested in her. Rapist are cowards and will usually go for the weaker target.
Sorry if I misinterpreted it - it seemed odd. Anyway.
Assuming it's a sexual thing, which one is more appealing: Elisha Cuthbert in jeans or Elizabeth Taylor (now) in a miniskirt?
I see what you mean, though. However I wouldn't call rapists "cowards" as such; rape is a chillingly fierce act in itself.
Rapists are, at the end of the day, indefensible c*nts.

people need to stop bringing sexuality into this as a variable. rape is NOT a sexual crime. sexual crimes are things like frotteurism (rubbing your body up against a stranger), exhibitionism(exposing one's self) voyeurism, telephone scatologia(sexual urges to make phone calls to unsuspecting people) pedophelia, things like that. rape is a violent crime and has nothing to do with sex. sex crimes fall under the heading of being a paraphilia(sexual disorder), rapes fall under the heading of violence.

edit: more info...

rape is not a sexual paraphilia because it must be the rapist's preferred method of sexual release. for some rapists, the physical force during sex is more arousing than consensual sex. most people with paraphilias feel distressed because of their condition. rapists do not.

as to why people rape other people... has nothing to do with the victim and little to do with society, rapists tend to have major psychological problems such as substance abuse, antisocial personality disorder, and depression as about the same rates as other violent crime offenders found in jails.

What about people who use the date-rape drug? I'd say there's about zero violence in that sort of situation.

Besides, I believe rapists don't rape specifically for the violence. They rape because they want to have sex. I don't want to start explaining what I think goes on in the psyche of a rapist, but to put it in layman's terms, they have a lot of sexual angst and are really desperate, or just get off on doing something they shouldn't be doing.

yeah the date rape instances blur the lines a bit.

Let me guess, you also think that every bit of violence t hat happens is video games fault right?
Actually i have the complete opposite view when it comes to violent games XD

I'd never want to see any of the stuff i see in CSS in real life
However, porn is a pretty different story
Who wouldnt wanna see two hot naked chicks making out in real life as well?

Not to mention the effects of the two types of stimulation are utterely different.
Plus just what studies have shown about the effects of both

Ionno, i prolly just did a horrible job explaining how they're different
But they really do just leave you with completely different feelings
::Shrugs::

edit: And if i was coming across as saying that porn creates rapists, i really wasnt saying that
I was merely presenting an explanation for the increase in rapes
(Which apparently some ppl dont think is up all that much, but id be willing to bet its a pretty drastic increase)

I think it's more like The Mullinator said - there's been an increase in reports of rape, because it's less of a taboo, and people don't generally consider it as "shameful", which it was in the past.

Jackal hit - well done for reiterating the distinction between sex and violence in rape cases. Almost all of the time it's power, not lust.

heh I saw this preacher on TV, discussing this very subject. As he occasionally took time out from promoting christianity, he said that it made the tempted act (when young women dress sexy).....

and though I can see why/how a person could believe this, I don't respect it. If a person is so morally challenged that they would rape another person, dressing down wouldent matter a jack-shit.

and to who ever said "more porn = more rape" go get molested by your catholic minister ;)

Nah, seriously though, I do understand what your getting at. Porn can breed a imaginary in young minds that even though the girl says no she means yes. But that's the point, it's imaginary. For you to blame porn more than the actual rapist is plain ignorant.

Rapists should have their genitals smashed and their eyes gouged out. Hell I'd even volunteer to do the honors myself. Ok maybe I'm going a lil overboard there, but all I can say is if I found out some guy raped one of my friends, I guarantee he won't be around to do it again....
