I believe that the real G-Man is whoever you want him to be. He will take the form of whatever your fetish is.

For Gordon, those sexy lawyers in the suits and ties make him hot. He watches a lot of Law and Order.

For Alyx... I'm assuming she just likes old guys (Hence the crush on Gordon. He's old if you consider the tiemskips).

The X-Files thing was in that viral website way back when HL2 was getting launched. Btw the HL2 movie was made in 1996 with Charlie Sheen:
