Well ok I tried to put in an old Ti4200 into me computer, and i tried to install the drivers countless times but it never worked, it would just be (VGA Device), and I tried a mixture of old and new Nvidia drivers, and the bundled software disc that I managed to dig out - but it still didnt work. Now, I did a really stupid thing here - I DISABLED the 'VGA Device" and now when starting up into windows It loads up fine, but where the log in screen is meant to come up, it's simply a black screen. I swapped the Ti4200 for a 5600, still the same, a 9800 Pro, still the same. Any ideas on how to get this working again?!

Boot into safe mode? Have you tried that?

Boot into Safe Mode by tapping F8 as you start the computer up. Keep tapping it until the boot menu comes up.

Select Safe Mode. Uninstall your video drivers and re-enable the VGA device. Now restart. It should boot up in 640x480 (or maybe 800x600 for XP) and you'll be able to install the drivers again.

Right, scrap that first post - Safe mode didn't work, for some bizarre reason it freezes while booting up into, but I think I've had that problem for a while now before this, but it seems to working fine out of nowhere with the 5600. Problem has gone back to the beginning, I can't install any drivers. I uninstalled the older ones, tried both the 61.77 xp international and English ones, but every time I'm greeted by 'Found New Hardware, Video Controller', and the drivers are in the add/remove programs list, but in display>settings the driver, or 5600 are nowhere to be seen, so incidentally I can't play any games :(

Did you delete the temporary Nvidia install folder (C:\Nvidia) which has driver files? It is possible that it's finding the wrong driver but it thinks it will work.

Just download drivercleaner software and try again.

And your VGA Device is your graphics card. I don't think you'll be disabling that again. hehe

Right, no luck :( - I've tried a driver cleaner program as well as just deleted the Nvidia folder but still the same old thing with both the 5600 and Ti4200. I would just bung in the 9800 Pro but it's not actually mine :p. Any more ideas? lol

comon comon, It's still buggered I've been trying to get them installed for about 3 hours now. Someone? :(

What mobo do you have and are all the drivers for it installed correctly?

What did you upgrade from?

I'm unsure of any details of me motherboard - but I didn't upgrade from anything, I simply swapped a 5600 for a Ti4200, and when trying to install the drivers for either, I don't have any luck. Is there any way to find out what mobo I have other than opening the case up and having a look?

Yes, u can download CPU-Z here

"CPU-Z is a freeware detection program base on the Panopsys hardware detection engine.
It allows to get some information on your system, including :

Processor name and vendor
Core stepping and process
Processor package
Processor current core voltage
Internal and external clocks, clock multiplier
Partial overclock detection
Processor features, including supported instructions sets.
L1 to L3 cache information : location, size, speed, technology.
Motherboard information : name, vendor, BIOS, chipset, memory, AGP.
Memory information : size, type, timings, specifications."

Yeh, I managed to d/l my mobo drivers, but still no luck. I'm thinking of just wiping off me HD, seeing what happens from there. If it's still fecked, well..balls to it then :(

First it's not a good idea to mix Radeon and Geforce. The TI4200 should be pretty easy to install... Download the last drivers for the Geforce Geforce Drivers 61.77.

Go into your add/remove pannel and delete all the VGA drivers (Nvidia and ATI).

Now go in the device manager, select video adapter and right click on your video card, then select uninstall.

Next, search for any temp drivers on your comp and delete them (like the /Nvidia folder).

Reboot

If it asks to install drivers, close all the windows, cancel. When windows is fully loaded, Double clic on the install file for the geforce drivers. Install the drivers.

Reboot

If it doesn't work then it's probably a hardware or bios issue. Do you have integrated video on your motherboard? Have you ever installed an AGP video card in this computer?

Also try installing the newest chipset drivers for your motherboard. That will update the AGP driver.

Ok, I've tried the newest drivers for my mobo, and followed your steps Ti133700N. However, no luck. I just don't understand though - these are the events which happened before it went tits up.

1. My brother swapped the Ti4200 for a 5600. I played with that in there for about a week.
2. After a while, I figured the Ti4200 was actually better, so I swapped them back.

And from there it all ballsed up. There is no on-board video card on my mother board, as for installing an AGP video card - no, other than the 5600, but the computers been f**ked up countless times and I've reinstalled the drivers no problem, I just really don't understand what's up with it.
