Hey guys and gals, im having a really weird problem. When the fear demo forst came out i installed it and tried it out. I have a 9800pro 128mg. It ran pretty damn nice with most settings turned on high. But i juss got the full version the other day, applied the fear 1.01 patch. And updated my drivers for catalyst to 5.10

Im getting horrible archtiects int he game. ( and im a not even overclocking)
Could my card be running to warm?
I have a gig of ram, 2.8 pentium 4 with HT, 80 gig hardrive etc. decent rig. But its really having trouble with FEAR...

Any ideas?

PEACE

try lowering ur gfx quality, take the side panel off ur case, get sum air to ur GFX card. If all runs well it cud be ur GFX card overheating.
Don't expect to be able to play the game with that GFX card on full tho, the demo does not represent what the full version will be like

I found opening the side of my case and sticking a desk fan blowing into the case didn't help my temps at all when my old X850's fan died... it made it worse. Having the case opena and having some huge fan blowing in just disrupts the airflow of the case and don't help any in cooling.

Try turning the settings down, and, have you noticed the artifacting in any other games?

Try rolling back your drivers for your GFX card.

I didn't say take the side panel off & have a huge fan blow air onto the card, that wud obviously distrupt the airflow inside tha case, and like you said make things get hotter. Just take the side panel off & see what happens. Do u not have any cooling in ur case? I'd recommend you dip into ur pocket and get some fans to keep ur case cool. This is a diagram u want to follow for best airflow & a cool case...

Yeah, sorry. But i still found it kept it cooler with the side panel on, then without it on (with and without a fan blowing in).

Wow.....you do know that taking the side panel off actually gives less air circulation, right? Less air circulation is bad by the way.

anyone notice that this game doesnt look as good as hl2 and runs worst??

depends what you define as doesn't look as good, i found it quite pleasant myself

:)

Sounds like thats the problem.. unlucky. If you want to keep your 9800pro then you could get one of the arctic cooler hsf's for gfx cards. They keep the card really cool while teh fan is very quiet, even when I put it on teh high setting, I can't hear it. Just take your time when you are fitting it, don't rush things, don't over tighten screws and make sure you protect yourself from static, thats if you get one..

Taking the side panel off dropped my card's temps by 15 degrees :)

When you upgrade to drivers you DO delete the older ones including all parts of what came with the bundle, right? If you don't it'd be best to start now, get drivercleaner.

Ultimate cooling:

Taking off the side, a placing a box fan on the highest speed next to it.
Or placing your PC in a feezer. Don't do that, though. Condensation, ftl.

Just put your PC in a vacuum... like space... ultimate cooling :)
