Hi every1,

I'm stuck with a very irritating problem: for some reason the turbo jump doesn't work as it should (and as I remember it from HL1).
It is bound to my caps lock key, but even when it is bound to another (regular) key, or even in default (shift) setting, the problem continues.

The scene is in "Water Hazard", where I have just lifted the ramp by placing the empty barrels in the basket under water.
The ramp is now in place and ready to be used...

The thing is that in order to bridge the gap, a normal jump will not suffice. But when I try to turbo jump, all I get is the sound of small jet of gas and that's it. It does not matter whether I press once, severeal times or keep the key pressed down, the result is always the same.
Strangely, the turbo seems to work when running (sprint mode) and the progress bar decreases as normal, but the jump just won't do it.

Is this a known issue? And if so, is there a solution (other than cheats) to deal with it?
Or am I doing something completely wrong and am I stupidly looking for something that is not there :-)

I have searched the net and (think I) read every page on this forum, but cold not find any reference to this problem...

Any help is greatly appreciated, as HL2 is without a doubt the most stunning game released to date. Unfortunately, with this problem in place it prevents me from continuing the enjoyment.

System details:
Motherboard: Asus P5GDC deluxe, 1 GB
CPU: Intel P4, 3.2 GHz
Videocard: Asus Extreme AX600XT-TD 128 MB (PCI-E)
Harddisk: 200 GB HDD
Operating system: Win XP pro (SP2)

Thanx!

use the boat to make the jump

long-jumping isnt in HL2
put all the barrels you can find in there, just hit it at full speed w/da boat

no point in jumping over,,, just use the boat. Gordon got to old in the timespan (between HL1-HL2) to jump 10 ft threw the air. LOLZ :dork:

doh

*slaps forehead* (with a sledgehammer :p )

I had left the mudskipper before the wooden barrier with the ramp and there was no indication that you needed it anymore.

The whole barrel thing was easy enough to figure out and in the walkthru that I found it said "use turbo to jump".

That solution was also given for the wooden crate and cable mounts in the "Root Canal" episode (you know: "flood the area, then swim through tunnel, dive down and break the planks holding the wooden objects"). It has taken me quite some time to make a proper crossing without any turbo and it was only after I succeeded that I read about it in a walkthru (which, incidentally, I dislike to use for obvious reasons...).

I then remembered the 'long jump' from HL1 and added 1+1 to come to the solution that I needed this to make the jump in the Water Hazard episode.

That was obviously the wrong assumption (I know... ASS-U-ME) and yes, I feel somewhat stupid now *blush*

Ah well, I'm glad nothing is wrong with my game or hardware set-up :E

Thanks for helping me out guys, U rock!!
