reasons why HL2 will definatly kill Doom 3

Well personally I think HL2 is looking like the better game (though not by much), but there's no denying ID's track record, they know how to make a very popular, very fun, very moddable game. Doom 3 will supprise alot of you, just wait and see.

As for mods, ID practically invented moddable game engines. Something tells me D3 will be no exception

HL2 omg the sun is not bright enough, i dont go blind when i look at it.

If we're just talking popularlity I think HL2 will 'win'; even if it,some how, is an inferior game. It has lower system requirements, will sell in different versions including a 'lite' version for the really casual gamer and has an established fanbase for both HL and all of its mods (probably more for mods than anything else).

I think the thing that is really going to kill Doom 3's longevity is a lack of decent multiplayer. You can only play the same scripted game so many times before you get bored.

Having said that, I really feel bad to put down any high quality game considering the immense effort building a top end game takes these days.

Heheh... I doubt many of the people posting in these forums could be consider non-baised judges ...so the result of any HL 2 v D3 debates is null and voided anyway.

Personally I will look at both games (and any other intresting ones , like Relics Warhammer game DoW...looks like it may give WC 3 a fright), if both D3 and HL 2 get good reviews I'll consider myself lucky to have 2 great games to play.

BTW: Re modding - ID's Doom (1 and 2) started the whole idea of community add-on content, Quake tried to enhance the idea by allowing for custom code to be put into the engine, HL succeeded via very determind modders and Valves eager assistance.

I very much doubt that ID will neglect the mod aspect when releasing D3, in fact I recall the devs saying that the tools required to mod D3 are integrated with D3 (no seperate SDK).

This doesn't really make any sense, since the majority of Vs threads I see, are started by people who favour some game that opposes HL2, like Doom 3.

It is not so often that a thread like this, where the thread is created by a HL2 fan seeking reasons showing that HL2 is better.

There is no product killing involved. I don't understand the arguement here. They aren't enemies, people will play what they want to play. No ones winning anything. HL2 will be a better game for the people that like that type of game. Doom 3 will be a good game that like doom 3 type of game. There is NO winning or losing between them.

I know there has been many posts about doom 3 vs half life 2 and stuff like that.

first of all both of these games r looking amazing but the reason why HL2 willl be the one that will be around for the longest is simly becuase of Multiplayer , Mods , and the fact that ur not in the same place the whole game . Doom 3 will only have deathmatch multiplayer which will get boring fast , and the whole game is on that spaceship or whatver.
