i know nothig about them, but i realy do want one.

if anyone knows how to measure a good camera please list here, for example, most of us know how good a computer is by looking at its, cpu, vga, mobo, os, and ram. on a digitalcam what do you look at? memory capacity? i dont know a lot of other technicle terms i dont knwo of right now, but please someone type me a guide line for one, and give your recommendations no matter what the cost, just list all the favorite ones you guy shave. since companies make a lot of cams, be specific.

with digital cameras, i look at the Mega pixels, the brand and the features. i just recently bought the Sony CyberShot DSC-F171 . its 5.2mp, which is a lot. and it has hundreds of different features. but i take lots of pictures. i mean are you gonna use the camera for fun. or are you into photograpy. also, how much $$ do you want to spend.

i dont want bullshit features like, blurry, black and white, blablabal. i want zoom, and other tacticle shit like that, its goona mainly be used for pics, occasionaly a lot of video recording will be done. i want it to record well, i dotn kwno what measures how well it records, but maybe im looking at a 512 or 256 memory card what do you guys say. long recording periods is a plus. i wanna spend between 100-300, is that reasonable?

With a 3.0 MP camera you can blow pictures up to fit a 8x10 and a 4.0 MP can do 11x14.
That is what I would stick with really. I wouldn't go below a 3 or much above a 4. Unless you have special needs. Same with Zoom. 3x optical zoom is pretty much standard. If you want to go above that I would recommend a 8 or 10x optical zoom.
Ignore digital or total zoom!
Same thing you do on the PC...basicly it just enlarges the pixels and makes it blocky. Most Digital Cameras come with Digital Zoom disabled because of just that.

I perfer Olympus/Canon/Nikon and maybe sony compared to the others. People look at HP cameras and I'm thinking what the hell are you doing looking at a PC brand for cameras...they sux for PCs so why would they be good for cameras?
BTW the Lens is mostly what I look to when going by brand aswell.
The Canon A70/A80 have a great Lens. Strongly recommend 3 and 4 MP cameras with 3x optical zoom.
The Canon ELfs (SD-100 / SD-400 models) are great 3/4 MP cameras that are small and pocket size. I think the 100 has a 2x optical zoom and the 400 has a 3x.
Casio has 2 very small camera models out. 3/4 MP models. One only has digital zoom but it is VERY small and has a huge LCD on the back. The 4MP model also has a huge LCD but has 3x optical zoom as well.
Olympus C-750 is an awesome camera with a 10x optical Zoom (4MP camera).

Read the reviews because that is the only real way you will be able to tell what kind of quality to expect. From camera to camera they proccess the image differently.

Look at what kind of batteries and Flash memory it takes...
Some cameras cost more upfront for the camera but the accessories (spare battery/Flash Memory) cost less.
Some camera brands cost less upfront but the accessories get ya.
For instance...Canon's A70 is 299$ retail but a 128mb CF card is only 49$ and the 4 NiMH are 10-15$.
Sony's comparible camera (except 2x optical zoom) is 249$ but the 128mb Sony Memory stick is 69-79$ and the spare Lithion Ion battery is 59$.
Rechargable Lithium Ion or Rechargable NiMH AA Batteries?
If your batteries are low and you have Lithium Ion batteries...you better hope you have a spare or can dock and charge it.
With NiMH AA batteries you can pop regular AA batteries in if you are in a pinch. Regular AA batteries don't last long at all but it works.
Compact Flash (been around and cost the least), Secure Digital (SD is another good flash standard but a bit more in price), Sony Memory stick (only with Sony products) or the new XD flash memory...
BTW don't get anything with Smart Media. Donno if any cameras use it as I have not seen any but stay way from smart media.

BTW Mega Pixel is how many million pixels are in the digital photo.
Horisontal Res. x Vertical Res. = Total pixels.

Digital Camera can take pictures with a resolution of 2,000 x 2,000? It is a 4MP Camera.
2000*2000 = 4000000 (4 Million)

Olympus C-750 4MP,10X,XD Flash Memory,Lithiom Ion
Olympus Stylus 300 3.2MP,3X,XD Flash Memory, Lithiom Ion (Water Proof)
Canon PowerShot S400 4MP,3X,Compact Flash Memory,Lithiom Ion
Think he already linked the A70 but here is the
Canon PowerShot A80 4MP,3X, Compact Flash Memory, 4 AA NiMH
Casio Exilim EX-Z4U 4MP,3X,Secure Digital Flash Memory,Lithiom Ion
