Anything good along those lines.

Or heck, just anything good. I'm in need of some new bands to listen to.

Same here. All the bands in my music folder (Or my actual CDs) except 5 originated in the 80's or before, and only 1 (or 2, I don't know about one of them) originated after the 90's.

PS. I guess I have 7 bands that originated after the 80's. The 90's bands are Pantera, Black Label Society, Rob Zombie (I also have White Zombie, but that was 80's), some Cradle of Filth (Very little though, like 2 songs), and some Arch Enemy (3 songs). The 2000's are DragonForce and a band called "The Sword" who sould just like Black Sabbath.

An amazing album that everyone should hear is Mr. Bungle - California.

Jazz, funk, swing, carribian, metal, rock? Man, I couldn't pin a genre on this album at all. It's crazy. And I mean real crazy. Everyone should enjoy this album. Hell, I should just say ''It's Mike Patton, enough said''

One of my all time favourite bands that more people should really like are Mogwai. Chaotic at times, yet clam alot too. Loud-quiet and quiet-loud, shoegazing, lashings of overdrive and distortion, melodic and quite sadistic sounds, etc etc... I love Mogwai.

EDIT: Forgot to recommend some Mogwai. If you are going to get any, by whatever means, I suggest the latest album Mr. Beast by them. It's alot more straightforward and easier to get into than the other albums would be to a first time listener. All their albums are great, but some of the albums took me a few listens to real soak in the sound. And man, what a beautiful sound each album has.

for Electronic stuff: Skinny Puppy, Front 242, Venetian Snares, Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, M83, Circle of Dust, DJ Shadow, Ministry

Metal: Between the Buried and Me, Dilinger Escape Plan, Five Pointe O, Cryptopsy, Opeth, Fear Factory, Strapping Young Lad, Dredg, Meshuggah, Nothingface, Mushroomhead, Electric Wizard

Crazy Experimental Stuff (if you really want to hear something you've never heard before....): Naked City, Coil, SPK, Secret Chiefs, Brown Whorenet, Merzbow, Sunn O))), Fantomas, Hella

Rock: Porcupine Tree, King Krimson, Rasputina, Islands

some great hip-hop groups: Outkast (their first three albums), Del the Funkee Homosapian, MF Doom (get the album Mm Food),

this should keep you busy. i guarantee all of them will be of at least some intrigue. i tried to have as much diversity as i could. If you truely want to open your mind up to the music community, listen to them.

and Mr. Bungle - California? HELL YES!!

Autechre.

Buy any of their albums ranging between "Chiastic Slide" and "Untilted". Take some kind of drastic mind-altering substance while listening to it, if you wish. You will either find a newfound respect for human ingenuity and a broader respect for what constitutes as "music", or you will fall into a deep depression over the cold, sad, artificial landscapes they produce. Or you'll just say "WTF" and toss it away altogether.

BTW I love your ****in' sig.

Example:
Bine

Autechre! yes! my friend loves them and I haven't listened to them yet. They seem exciting.

Well, you listed Merzbow. So my guess is that Autechre won't be too alien too you, since they too have a pretty caustic edge too them. (Hell, I'm pretty sure they remixed some of his stuff)

I've always held onto the belief that Autechre is best listened to throughout their entire progression. Listening to them slowly transform from their electro roots to their current, mind-bending, mechanical iteration is simply astounding. And there's plenty of beautiful sights along the way.

I also have to reccomend Squarepusher.

His earlier stuff is a mix of jazz, funk, and drum and bass. Real great, real beautiful. But if you want to go into true, breakneck, head**** territory, then you have to get the album "Go Plastic". You get a taste of it on some of his stuff preceding it, but "Go Plastic" has shit changing on a second-to-second basis where no two moments in it sound alike, all while still managing a somewhat cohesive form (ignoring all the drills, slowdowns, speedups, and offbeat time signatures). There's no other album like it. Even Aphex Twin sounds comparatively tame to the madness.

Example:
Go! Spastic
Greenways Trajectory

Also, I have a DJ Shadow album on my computer. It's called Endtroducing, is it any good? He's touring over here so my mate lent it me to get me into the stuff. Not had time to listen to it yet.

You might like Shitdisco/Klaxons as well.

Also Hot Chip and The Presets

I'll check all of these guys out, hopefully they'll be easy to torrent :p.

And thanks, ab.

Awesome! Now I know that me and my friends are not the only ones who are familiar with Mike Patton stuff!
Entroducing won a world's record for first album to be made entirely of samples. I would recommend highly.

Yeah, I do love me some Mike Patton. :D What a genius. Or a god, even.

I'm listening to the Endtroducing album now, and I'm liking what I hear. Loved the second track, Building Stream With A Grain Of Salt, and I'm currently on The Numbers Song now.

Oh... dear. :( The freind who lent me the album said his latest release was straight up hip-hop, and he said he loved it just as much. His opinion of course, I'm just not a fan of hip-hop to be honest. Cypress Hill is a far as I can go.

That site is cool, just a shame it only lets US residents register

For an interesting blend of progressive, house, trance, and breaks (in various combinations) see:

http://www.hybridized.org/

Of particular interest are Greg Benz and Digital Witchcraft.

This probably won't enthuse people who are used to random squealy noisy stuff, but I'm quite fond of it. It's a lot closer to orchestral (in structure, not sound) than it is to advant-garde experimental.

Just make up a zip code and your set. Or, just find a random business and use the zip conde from thier address.

Psh, just register as US and use 27619 as a zip code (it's one in the area that I live in). Eat your heart out, the site's awesome.

For Trance I'd recommend Armin Van Buuren, Blank and Jones, heard good things about paul Oakenfold

I'd take a look at www.di.fm if your interested in trance/techno/etc. there host webradio stations of various Electronic genres
