I have recently watched every episode of Cowboy Bebop and am watching Samurai Champloo. I have loved them both, but I am not by any means an Anime buff. So, what are some other must see's?

Ghost in the Shell and Last Exile, I'd highly suggest those 2 series to anyone just looking for some anime.
EDIT: I'd also suggest watching Hellsing, though I'm not to sure about the OVA series, or whatever it's called (I believe it's actually suppose to be season 2 of Hellsing), but season 1 of Hellsing was absolutely brilliant.

Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex (both seasons, + movies)
Genshiken
Lucky Star (...ok, not really)
Suzumiya Haruhi No Yuutsu (again, not really...)
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (MUST SEE)

mmm...Full Metal Alchemist
My friends recommended me FLCL,Death Note,Chobits but I watched them and...don't think they're too good.
Final Fantasy Unlimited,Noir,.Hack\\Sign - one watching only, these series are bad or fail completely.(but Noir and Hack-Sign are awesome at music)

Akira. Awesome movie.

Azumanga Daioh is horribly, horribly cute and often hilarious. If it doesn't become a guilty pleasure of yours, you might not have a soul.

Gungrave, Outlaw Star, Trigun, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Speed Grapher, and Hunter X Hunter are some of my favorites that haven't been mentioned.

Naruto, Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad (awesome rock band one), trigun

One thing I like about most anime nowadays is that the Dubs have gotten better over the years. I know, most everyone likes subs more, but I like to focus on the animation rather than have to read dialogue.

Maybe that's why I loved Cowboy Bebop so much...

Anyway, I think I'm going to try to watch Ghost in the Shell and Hellsing next. I remember watching Outlaw Star, Gundam Wing, and Tenchi Muyo once upon a time on Toonami, and I remember liking them. Maybe I'll go back and watch those.

Honestly? Only the Cowboy Bebop dub is any good. Almost everything - everything else - has shithouse dubs. That includes Ghost in the Shell SAC, although curiously not the Ghost in the Shell movie, which had decent dubbing. I think.

I thought Samurai Champloo was decent, although I prefer it subbed, and the new Akira dub is pretty close to the Japanese script, even if it is somewhat poorly acted. I've heard a bit of the Hellsing dub, and it actually works better since it does take place in England. Oh, and I saw Spirited Away in theaters years ago, and I didn't have any problems with the dubbing, although that may be because I was so amazed at the animation that I wasn't paying much attention to the acting.

Seriously, while dubs still have a long way to go, if you compare the most recent non-4kids dubs to past dubs like Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z, I think you'll find that they are at least trying to be faithful to the source material nowadays. Besides, if you don't speak Japanese, you don't really know if the Japanese voice actors are really that much better imo. Hayao Miyazaki himself said that he preferred if viewers watched his films in their native language.

But yes, dubs have a history of being shitty. That is why I said that only recently have they begun to improve. This of course doesn't apply to all recent dubbed anime. Naruto and One piece instantly spring to mind as making me want to tear my ears off.

Edit: Oh yeah, and I only saw the first episode of Gunslinger Girl dubbed., but I thought it had some great voice acting.

I'm going to say an out-right stereotypical response of me:

Arash no Yoru ni.

(actually a movie)

damn,I have to watch all the anime with English subs.
Russian subs are all translations of the English ones and there're no dubs at all.Japanese->English->Russian translation is terrible.

Code Geass (best anime ever in my book just narrowly beating NGE)
Death Note
Neon Genesis Evangelion
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (movie)
Akira (movie)

Neon Genesis Evangelion

but prepare yourself for a mental breakdown...

and if you want something more fun and cool to watch try:
Hellsing
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
Appleseed 1 and 2

oh yeah forgot Hellsing. Tv series is okay but the OVAs kick ass :D

EDIT: Forgot another one you should watch elfen lied. Might be a bit disturbing but fantastic anime :)

Evangelion for sure dawg.
I also second GITS an Last Exile.

The thing about subs is, they're usually better, but with stuff like GITS I simply am not able to follow the complicated dialogue and the action all at the same time. I end up hardly looking at the actual screen at all, just reading the subtitles all the time. I'd much rather be able to see the beautiful animation, and thus I must unfortunately (at least in some cases) plump for the dubs.

+1 for Elfen Lied and Azumanga Daioh

You seem to be looking for action anime which isn't really my bag, but of that genre I have seen Baccano, which is a fantastic anime that I enjoyed very much.

Bleach
D-Gray Man
Outlaw Star
One Piece (kinda kiddy, but its alright)

Watching samurai champloo through at the moment too for the second time, I love it myself. I also always try to watch anime with subs instead of dubs.

I want to highly suggest Last Exile again. Personally it's my favourite anime out there
EDIT: Appleseed was a good anime as well. Not particularly amazing, but something to watch if you're ever looking for something to watch.

If you're wanting films then I recommend Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke and My Neighbour Totoro; basically some of Hayao Miyazaki's best films.

NGE is... well, you better be ready for it.

Bebop is more fun I think.

Oooh ooh!

Mind Game

Greatest mind**** of a movie ever

Awww... when i saw " Recommend me some..." i was sure it was going to be porn :'(

YES. Watch all of these movies they are amazing.

As for actual shows, I like Gundam and Slayers. Second one is an odd pick for me, I dunno why I like it I just do.

Gunslinger Girl - both seasons
Elfen Lied (note: its body count/violence level tops that of Reservoir Dogs)
Ghost In The Shell (movies)
Fullmetal Alchemist
Saikano (She the Final Weapon) -> The book is way better, however.

Only anime that I have liked are the ones listed.

Okay we get the idea that you don't like anime if you don't then don't post in the very few anime topics we do get.

Seriously there should be an anime board

Watch yourself some classics.

Watch Guyver, Mospeada, Macross, Patlabor, Gundam, Ranma 1/2, Tenchi Muyo, Urusei Yatsura, Tekkaman Blade, Gunbuster, Escaflowne, Fushigi Yuugi, Slayers, Project A-ko, and Saber Marionette. Watch Fruits Basket. Watch JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and YOU WA SHOCK--I mean, Fist of the North Star. There's a lot of great old stuff before you go checking out the new stuff. But the new stuff's pretty awesome too.

What? The GitS dub is the worst dub I've ever attempted to sit through. In fact, it's so bad that the cast are the same IIRC as every other GitS property, with the exception of Motoko who plumbs new depths of monotony with every new 'GCSE Philosophy in an elevator' scene that the film throws at you. Avoid Avoid Avoid!
If you like mecha, go look for Gundam!
Maybe: 0079 Movies, 0080, 08th MS Team, Zeta, Victory, Turn-A, 00
No: 0083, Double Zeta, Char's Counterattack, F91, G, Wing, X, Seed, Seed Destiny.

I watched them so you don't have to.
Fushigi Yuugi, Fruits Basket.
Nice to hear that someone else has the mentality of a 12 year old girl. I was getting lonely.

Thread contains no mention of Ghibli movies, which have the best dubs for casual fans, and are just plainly good movies. Also Escaflowne, because it's a big gay Mecha show that's over before you can learn to hate it.

I enjoy a good shoujo anime now and then.

Also how did I forget Escaflowne in my list? I had it in my head when I was typing but somehow left it out. That was one of the first anime shows I ever watched, back when you had to mailorder a stack of VHS tapes.

Wut? Are you serious about No to 0083 and Chars Counterattack?

I don't remember much of Outlaw Star, but I remember liking it.

So I saw a bit of the dubbed version of Ghost in the Shell on youtube. I'm going to watch that next for sure. It looked fantastic. I liked the dubbing except for Motoko. Too robotic.

Wut? Are you serious about No to 0083 and Chars Counterattack?
Definitely to Char's Counterattack. It's just about the best Gundam has in terms of animation quality, but that's about it. Despite being the one time Tomino hasn't been trying to compress 20 or so hours of plot into a two hour movie, it's still entirely incoherent and poorly edited together. And it just hangs very awkwardly anyway. For no reason, Char is suddenly a boo-hiss villain and the plot falls back on 'ooh look, the Zeons are back again!' so as not to waste any time getting the best looking robots in Gundam firing lasers at each other in between the usual dose of poorly thought-out eco-warrior slagging matches that Gundam seemed to descend into even as early as Zeta.

Perhaps I'm too harsh on 0083. I just never particularly liked how
It went out of its way to bring technology far in advance of what was seen in every series supposedly set afterwards, and then retcon its retcons by ending everything and saying that all events were suppressed and covered up. The whole point of this series was surely to explore in further depth the period between the first two series. To effectively say 'and it was all a dream' is a massive cop-out, and it makes the whole thing feel very redundant.

I liked Gundam Wing. :|

Then again, I was like 12 when I watched it.
