I'm in the RA3 Beta at Fileplanet (subscribers only :().

When I saw the media I was expecting a cartoony game that follows no footsteps to the original RA series but I was wrong.

It's really good, it's probably the best C&C I've played. The graphics are awesome although it was a little slow all on highest. I found a little issue picking out my units from the very lush city environments though. The explosives are very impressive.

I was Soviets and the other guy was Allies. Instead of Ore, you have to basically harvest off a Well (like another structure) instead of a field. They slowly run out through the game. There are Oil Refinarys too, plus Observation Posts and Hospitals you can capture.

The maps are great, very well made in the true C&C scheme of making big choke points between the sides.

With Air, Sea and Land you are overwhelmed with possible units and tactics, every unit has an awesome way of attacking too. I stuck with land mostly and had lots of Air power (8x Kirov Airships, which destroyed the enemies base, a very easy win after a hugely intense land battle).

So far, I love it. It is seeming to be a great successor in the RA series! :D

I might have dirt in my eyes, but where can I find said beta? I don't see it advertised anywhere on Fileplanet's frontpage. And, yes, I am a paying sub.

I'm really looking forward to this game. But what the EA team really needs to make sure this game is successful for a long time to come is an easy to use moding system, similar to the RA2 rules ini. RA2 and Yuri's Revenge have tons of mods.

There are server channels for Mods, Custom Maps and Comp Stomps. So looks like they are already organizing it.

Looking at the file system also, it follows that of C&C:Generals, using several .big files.

Ugh... I was affraid of that. The scripting system in Generals was so... convoluted I never bothered to make a mod for it.

Got an email from EA last night saying that the beta is going live soon. Full email transcript on my blog

I hope so, I've had 1 game so far and there is no one to play with, I've been checking the lobby all morning. :(

Anyone who was signed up on the official site got that email I believe. FP users are meant to get into the beta later than Kanes Wrath retail kids.

I'll be waiting for retail...and the first few patches.

Just played as the Jap Empire, very cool. All their mechs are really dynamic and can adjust to every role on the battlefield, turn into planes, helicopters or armed mech warriors. They have an awesome Navy too.

The game also has a award system like Generals where you get special 'unlocks' as you gain ingame XP, so you can get special weapons and upgrades but the tree is massive, there must be around 20 different unlocks.

Very fun. I think the Japs are my favourite side now.

Sweet deal. I've always been a fan of the RA series and I was sure that Yuri's Revenge was going to be the last. I'm glad to be proven wrong.

I'm going to assume that Ra3 will be awesome based soley on Mutley's words. You keep providing status reports, you hear?

Yes. But Red Alert 2 was like a old sci-fi B-movie, but from what we've seen RA3 is just EA sitting down and saying "How do we make this shit retarded?"

Just something I pulled form a convo with Riom. I figure he's pretty much right.

Question are lobbies sorted by geographical location? If not I guess I'll have to yell at people again.

Done a few 2v2s now. The Empire is still my fav' (Transformers rule!) although I think I might start trying Soviets again.

Allies have Aircraft carriers, Cruisers (that transform to go on land). They also have like microwave orbital tanks, in the true C&C fashion.

The Superweapons aren't very powerful (yey), more a tool to be tactical with. The Empire has a shield bubble and the Allies have the Chrono teleporter, not sure about Sovs.

Personally I'm enjoying it just as much as RA2. :) It really is a true sequel.

There are for some, German, French and Korean but that's more to do with languages I guess.

Adding a third faction comprising of stupid stereotypical Japanese mecha shit is just retarded.
Plus, it looks like all you've even played is the multiplayer... so lets just hope they're actually putting honest to God effort into the singleplayer campaign.

Are there only 3 factions now? No more Iraq, France, etc..? I haven't read anything on RA3 yet. :p

Only 3 factions, Allies, Soviet and Empire (Japanese).

When I first saw the media the Jap Mech stuff looked stupid as hell but it really does fit into the game well.

It's a silly campy alternate future game based on previous super-power conflicts, how do crazy Japanese mechs not fit in? Sign me up!

Hmm... I'm going to kind of miss the diversity of the factions. I mean how each Allied country and Soviet country had their own special power. The nuke, the chronosphere, the canon the French had I think, the special Black Hawks the Koreans had, etc.

I'm still going to love RA3 by the sounds of it though.

I like the idea of wells instead of fields. That makes it more like TA, which in my opinion, is a superior RTS game to C&C

So, when is the public beta gonna be released?

There is no public beta afaik. Either purchase Kane's Wrath (and you won't get in straight away) or be a Fileplanet subscriber (they'll get some more entries later). I'm one of the ones that's been having trouble with the whole beta thing anyway getting no emails from EA :(

My name in the Beta is EvoWales

If anyone wants a match hit me up via Steam =]

I'm actually getting excited for this. Does the beta have an NDA or can you post us some screenie love?

I cant believe im not in the beta yet. I registered the DAY Kane's Wrath came out.
