Red Dead Redemption - Debut Trailer

Man, that was one of the goriest books I have ever read. Such ridiculous violence, but I imagine that it is not that far from the truth as those were some seriously tough times. I will be trying to play RDR as the Judge.

I just picked up this book today actually, huge sale at Borders.

Not sure about this. On one hand, you've got a western game, and on the other, a country game. Is it country or western - or country western?

I'm just being a fool; seriously though, the graphics aren't glossy enough. Too much wood. No - but seriously seriously, looks a little muddy. As in, average models and textures. This must be the console version - so there's no PC version?

Ugh I hope they don't use GTA4's rubbish control scheme.

I loved GTAIV's gunfights. While there was a certain delay in the controls, the overall effect was very pleasing. There was a consistent Michael Mann style to every fire fight.

Not to mention I loved the way enemies behaved after being shot. People don't just instantly drop dead after being hit with a certain number of bullets. The convulsing, squirming, crawling, etc. really hit home and made the thing feel real. I can't think of any other movie/game that does this, probably because it's easier to just shy away from the realities of combat.

Can't wait for more of the same in this and the next GTA.

Seemed fine to me, considering the scale of the project it's exceeded expectations. It's definitely a step-up from GTAIV, especially the shadows, which seem to have lost the awful, blurry dithering effect. It'll be interesting to see how the engine handles large areas of vegetation, since the trees were the most noticeable form of pop-up in GTAIV.

I have to agree, the graphics seem a little bit less than you would expect from a next gen game, which is no problem for me, it'll probably remind me more of Gun. I'm anything but a graphics whore.

And yes, Gun did contain a tame and optional scalping element, but it doesn't get much cash so I never really bothered with it.

I'm not a graphics whore either, it's just that it looked bad to me. If the game is great, then I'll like it anyway. Just saying, that's my first impression, knowing almost nothing else about the game.

Agreed. I liked the pace of fights - more Heat's cover and move street battle than arcady run and gun - but it wasn't implemented well. Clunky and imprecise. Something similar could be good for a western game if they sort out the fluidity - hiding behind barrels and water troughs and leaping out of doorways Sundance stylee :)
