Been playing the SP demo for Red Faction: Guerilla on the 360 for the past 5 days, and I must say, I'm HYPED.

I also played in the MP beta back in 2008, it's AMAZING how far this game has come, both with graphics, and physics. The MP in the beta was great, sadly the demo on XBL and PSN only contains single-player though.

However, I was pleasantly surprised that singleplayer was just as great as MP, if not greater, the destruction is amazing, the graphics are great, the atmosphere feels really nice and tight.

Overall, this is one of the best open-ended games to come along in years in my opinion.

Note: For now the demo is exclusive to those who get their hands on a demo code, via either pre-ordering from GameStop/EB Games(You can cancel it once you get the code, that's what I did ;)) or myTHQ's website.

For those who can't be arsed with getting a code, they'll have to wait around 3 weeks to get their hands on the demo!

I dislike this trend in putting demos on the consoles but not on the PC, I want to give this game a whirl!

I doubt UK have the deal anyway. :p
Yeah, so?:p I live in Sweden, all I did was place the pre-order for RF:G XB360, as soon as I got the code, cancelled it, no money was ever drawn from my CC, and I got an exclusive demo.

Also, there is a good reason for the PC not having a demo yet, they're actually trying to make a proper PC port of the game, not a shit port like Saint's Row 2.

I cannot wait for this game - does it have the feel of being able to run the hell away across Mars?

If anybody has read the Mars Trilogy they might know why I want this game to live up to my dreams of Mars.

It does sorta, but I've only played a few MP maps, and the small portion in the SP demo.

The full version promises several big regions, including one that is basically in the very early stages of terraforming(I.e. as close to mars as possible), and another one that's the golden city of Mars in the game, which has grass and vegetation growing in it.

But overall, the game feels incredibly tight, I was sorta expecting to be unimpressed because I found Saint's Row 2 to be a bit meh in my opinion, but I am truly in love with RF:G, any free-roam fans will love it.

Good to hear, it may well be a game I replay through many times - just to drive around Mars and shoot shit.

Although I will probably regret it I am getting this and prototype on PC. I have to say though , every video they put out seems better than the last. I just hope there are more references to the first game (not RF2 though cause that sucked story wise) than just naming two areas after Parker and Eos.

I'm not even sure that RF2 is considered canon in RF:G

It might just be considered a footnote in the games history. Considering that it took place on Earth and not Mars. I personally hope it isn't considered canon though , the only thing it had going for it was the fun (imo) combat and varied locations / enemies.

The destructible environment looks rather neat. Is there anything similar to the Geo-Mod (burrowing holes into the ground etc.) available in the game?

This is what I wanted to know. It won't really feel like Red Faction if you can't burrow :(.

Sadly, there is no destruction of the ground itself, seeing as the game takes place above ground it felt rather pointless, remember that most of RF1 took place in mines/underground facilities.

However, I think that for an open-ended game like this, it was a lot better to simply focus 100% on building destruction, rather than on tunneling.

There have also been many heated debates about this at the official forums off redfaction.com

However, GeoMod 2.0(RF:G) is just as 'groundbreaking' as GeoMod in RF1 was IMO, I mean it has a bloody stress system in place, you can dynamically smash down parts of buildings, and then stand for minutes watching cracks appear, dust fall from the concrete roof, and hear it collapsing on itself, it's bloody awesome, you have to play it to truly appreciate the awesomeness.

Just went ahead and preordered it and Prototype. About how long does it take for the demo code to arrive?

It's supposed to take at max 24 hours, if it takes longer, just send'em an email.

I assume you used EBGames.com or Gamestop.com?

Sure did. I'm hoping this will be the game to shut me up for a while. The last game to do that was Battlefield: Bad Company, but the destruction was limited to ground deformation, hitboxed buildings, and random objects. Still cool though.

Good to hear, I was looking forward to this.

I have another question , does it reuse the same music from previous games (as RF2 did) or do they have an entirely new soundtrack? If so does it have a similar style?

From the trailers I think it has a new soundtrack in a similar style.

And I want to try the demo too damn it!

It looks a bit lame from the demo videos on youtube. The destruction physics don't look anything special either. Just saying.

Feel free to point me to another fully 3D game that has a stress simulation system in place for buildings.

In other words, the destruction/collapses of buildings is not canned, it runs a large amount of 'stresstest' on the buildings all the time, so if you bring down something that can be important to a buildings structure IRL, the building will react the same way it does IRL.

I smashed down two walls of a two-story house, it took around 8 minutes for the house to collapse all together, but it was very cool, procedurally you saw cracks start appearing at the house, dust falling down, individual pieces falling off, then towards the end off it, the whole bloody thing comes crashing down.

You really have to play it to experience it.

The 'destruction' in itself isn't the WOW thing, for me, the wow thing is the game actually has a proper stress code for buildings, hence why the people who made the buildings for the game actually had to learn how to make a proper structure, via trial and error, because of the stress code, when most of their first structures actually collapsed as soon as they were put in the game.:)

Anyway, you really have to play the demo yourself, if you're not impressed and don't like it, you're either Jack Thompson or a moron.

The only thing I don't like is the Gears of War type "over the shoulder" camera position...

UK demo just got released for members of myTHQ.

Probably the best game I've played since GTAIV. May even surpass that if the gameplay holds up in the long-term.

Yeah, the sledgehammer is one of the most satisfying weapons I've ever used in a game.

It's even more fun in MP, I remember in the beta I was chasing after a dev, he hid inside a building, luckily I managed to spot a part of his arm through a window, and I smashed right through the wall, instantly killing him.

Satisfaction beyond sex!

I hope there's a free mode in the full game, where you can destroy buildings with no enemies constantly shooting at you. That gets a bit annoying after a while.

My favourite building in the demo is infinitely the long two-floored building. Knocking out loads of the bottom level and watching the whole top level buckle. Magic.

1. The first area you're dropped off into the game is an abandoned junkyard, where you can just smash things to your hearts content.

2. The entire game is sandbox, the reason you're attacked in the demo is because the base you're in is a restricted military base, hence you have no business there.

3. In the demo, if you walk the opposite way, out to the road, you'll notice the soldiers don't attack you because you're not inside the restricted area.

Cant wait for this.

I remember when I first jumped into the MP beta, and grabbed that rhino jet, and proceeded to RUN THROUGH A ****ING WALL taking out two people behind it as it crumbled ontop of them.

hell yeah.

Oh man yeah, the rhino was hands down the best backpack!

Man, I loved the MP Beta, and the stress system sounds amazing!

Can't wait for public access :D

I have a 360 key that has not been used, and I want to trade it for a PS3 key. PM me if any of you are interested.

Sorry I'm late to this thread, but I finally played the demo. The destruction is great! I love putting bombs on a car, smashing the car into a building, running off, and detonating the bombs which will blow up the car for an even bigger explosion. It's good fun. The walker is fantastic too.

PS3 or PC? ****ing hell i cant decide.

It's hard to say, according to the devs at the official forums, the PC version will probably come out a (few) month(s) later, because they want to make a proper port and not rush it just to get it out at the same time as the console versions.

You described how this feels perfectly.
