Hi there..

I've got a problem with HL2! I can't get any reflections in the surface of the water... Not even basic setting! Can someone help me? - Has anyone else experienced this problem?

PC Spec:
Dual Athlon Opteron 275
4GB PC3200 RAM (Kingston)
PNY QuadroFX 4500
2x 80GB SATA HDDs

Thanks

Ben

hmm this is the first time ive ever heard of someone use a quadro card for hl2. they arent really meant for games.

I realise that - I'm normally running 3D Studio MAX on it but installed HL2 to see what it was like! - Should it really cause problems though?

Everything else is working fine... 4x Anti Aliasing, 8xAntistropic, and everything on its maximum setting...

Changing any of these settings does nothing though... evern everything on minimum

yup... Running in latest DirectX (9.0c)

I have attatched a screenshot so you can see what I see... It's not nice to look at really compared to other proper shots I've seen! :(

Just thought I'd add this too... It's the copy of what my consol says on startup... The last entry is some sort of error... Is that the problem?

its not just reflection problems... its full-on water problems you got there.

the water is there...
The bottles and crates are all floating a bobbing around..
You can swim in it etc...
Also when the helicopter flies over, you can see the down wash of it's blades and all the spray etc - JUST NOT THE SURFACE ITSELF! It's driving me nuts!

Has still noone got an answer for me? Or should I just assume that its the graphics card?

Hmm i think that if you're running 3DS Max and a demanding game at the same time then you'll get issues. I have the same problem when i'm running 3DS Max and a game at the same time and it lags and stuff >.<

Also have you tried messing around with the setting in the game? Like setting everything to default?

I'm not running 3D Stuido at the same time...

I've sorted it now anyway - thanks for the help! I had to drop back to DX8.1... I'm just trying to get a link from somewhere for that DX8 reflections patch which apparently makes the reflections appear almost as good as DX9 standards (I shall be my own judge for that!)... The link to the patch in these forums isn't working anymore! :(
