I think it's fair to say that they have been dumbed down. In HL1 we see zombies pulling people into vents, eating corpses, and generally being a whole lot more aggressive.

But in HL2, they come across as hardly a threat IMO, they just seem...weak and pathetic.

Anyone else think this?

But they pop out of sludge and swipe your genitals.

aren't those smarter zombies in HL1 just scripted to be smarter?

Those zombies were the results of headcrabs latching onto scientists, veritable geniuses. The zombies in Half-Life 2 were the remains of regular citizens, generally less intelligent. Perhaps host intelligence affects some level of behavior in zombies.

Yeah, straight out of my ass.

*TAKES POST SERIOUSLY*

Yeah, like look at combine zombies - they have been brainwashed hardcore, right? Because of that they can talk, identify enemies and even attempt to relay this info to their combine system - they say things like "Neucrotics inbound" and "Biotics overrrruun". Regular zombies just scream "UGGGHHH UGGHHH OH MY GOD" in reverse. In reverse!

Note that hl1 zombies do not scream in pain at all! And that their legs aren't broken and that they walk normally!

Well, it came from an interesting place but that may be true, somehow.Since Zombine can pull a grenade and may knew it is something that kills (But forget to throw it away).

I hope that somethime in the future (like in half life 3 or something) valve will combine the zombies of half-life 1 and 2 to make something pretty creepy , like the vent pulling but with the zombie yelling things like "urrgghhhaaawwdddd" or when zombies eat people , which was sadly missing from half life 2 , they get supprised by you and turn and gurgle "wwwwahhhhhhhhggggffff" in muffled human tones. That would restore the original half lifes zombies inteligence and have the creepyness of both types.

Yes, because the Zombies in HL2 you could hear the human still "shouting" to get out and in HL1 the 'crabs seemed to have more control over their host.

All of those scary things you saw in HL1 were scripted. The zombies in HL2 are 100% real time response.

But I mean, a zombie suddenly coming alive as they do, gets a bit old sometimes

Well, it's true that the HL1 zombies are much of a bigger threat to the player. Although lacking the general creepiness of the HL2 zombies they're faster, attack the player quicker when in contact and can be quite a challenge in great numbers.

I also hate how in HL2 your crowbar seem to have a greater distance when engaged in combat compared to the zombies claws. You can just hit them to death even before they have a chance to react. Also they are way too slow when attacking.

Is it?Well that's a good game there.
Keep posting information.;)

Psht, I can take out zombies from Half-life easier than I could those in Half-Life 2.

100% real time response...

I *think* you never even used hammer, have you?

The main difference about the zombies is how the HL1 zombie always goes "CHASE MODE MOTHER****ING ON!!!1111" while the HL2 zombie will usually chill around and go take a walk even in the middle of a fight.

The other main-ish difference is that the hl2 zombies shuffle about mindlessly but the hl1 zombies sit contently eating.

i think he meant more natural, idk

Ive never played the original half life, but i can say the zombies in half life 2 aren't that big of a threat, in fact the only time i ever had problems on a zombie part of the game was in Episode 1 on Lowlife, waiting for the elevator. And that was only hard because of the Zombines pulling out grenades every 3 seconds, and me not being able to see half of them in the dark.

Go play half-life 1 nao. If you dont i'll break a kittens legs.

According to Wikipedia, Zombine's like... not have a head when you shoot the headcrabs off? Most of the time i don't go and beat every dead body with a crowbar to make sure it stays dead, so i wouldn't know. But apprently when you shoot off the headcrab there's no head, so no brain, underneath, so i doubt that previous intelligence counts for anything, unless people want to start saying "Advisors don't suck out intelligence, HEADCRABS DO!" then yeah, good luck to you sir.

How can you not notice the missing head?! Also thanks to you i just broke a kittens legs... Hope your happy.

I already stated that i dont go around and beat every dead body with a crowbar, so i have no reason to look down at them. I also dont really pay attention to what i kill, more of what i'm going to kill next.

You dont pay much attention to your environment then do you? Have fun getting killed alot. There are several scenes when they practically show you the corpses.
