"Combining the customization and RPG elements of the early MechWarrior PC and board games with the fast paced arcade action of the MechAssault series and making it all Free-to-Play is an exciting opportunity to be part of," says Creative Director and Executive Producer, TJ "PAINGOD" Wagner. "I’m dying to get Thunder in the hands of new and old Mech pilots alike and battle it out. The best part is that time is very, very near."

Well, MechAssault on the XB1 was very fun in my opinion so I myself will definitely be keeping an eye on it.

I really don't know about this. MechAssault was easily my least favourite non-terribad mech game/series, and this just looks like more MechAssault. I was hoping for something more along the lines of Chromehounds :(

They're going to get their lunch eaten by Hawken and MechWarrior: Online. Hawken's shaping up to have some stellar fast-paced gameplay, and MechWarrior: Online is going to have a far richer gameplay experience. They're also both going to beat Reign of Thunder on release dates. This title just screams bandwagon hopping.

Looks far too fast paced.

But then again, I hated MechAssault.

That doesn't sound like they'll necessarily beat it to release.

Especially since Hawken isn't due to actually properly launch until the 12th of December, 2012.

Mech games are never as appealing as they should be, in my opinion... It's always big, empty, boring maps.. like, brown deserts, super flat cities, or brown deserts... or more brown deserts. Sometimes they even throw in a brown desert to mix it up a bit.

You also can't exit your mech and walk around as a person in most games that I recall. Usually there aren't tanks, helicopters, or soldiers to fight either; this pulls away from the fact that I am in a giant mech and instead just makes me feel like a robot fighting other robots. Hawken at least looks pretty, but it just seems like deathmatch. Meh. I guess I just don't get the appeal of mech games because they don't fully utilize the appeal of what a mech is.

Well, MechWarrior 2, 3 and 4 all featured non-BattleMech vehicles in the form of tanks, helicopters and such. However, none of them let you exit your BattleMech to fight on foot.

Which mech games are we talking about? The environments in all three MechWarrior 4 titles were about as lush as was possible with graphics limitations of the time. There were deserts and cities, sure, but there were also alpine, winter, ocean-side, great plains, moon/planetoid, temperate forest, and jungle maps, not to mention all the player-built custom maps built for multiplayer. If they seemed sparse, it's because the most powerful computer of that time was a Pentium III. Take a look at the MechWarrior: Living Legends mod if you want an idea of what a modern mech game can look like both visually and in gameplay. In fact, MechWarrior: Online will be based in CryEngine 3.

As to Hawken and Armored Core, I can't speak, I've never taken much interest in either.

I don't get why anyone would bash this but go nuts for Hawken. Hawken looks like your standard FPS arena shooter with a mech styled GUI to look like cockpits. What makes that game a true mech game and not this one?

Not that I'm a big fan of Mechassault, I much preferred the old school mechwarrior games and Battle Zone. Not this twitch-based arena shooter mayhem ADD ridden explosion-fest. I'll pass on Hawken and this most likely, though these guys have the right approach to mech games. At least they have destructible environments, not static brushes everywhere (Hawken)
