i really dont know if this was a good idea, but i remember a huge thread (about 30 pages long) were people made funny pictures or even little movies about them wanting the demo... any chance this will happen here??

Ohhhhhhhh let's hope not.
why not??? it was pretty funny...i just didnt post anything myself because of the lack of imagination/talent to such things

hopefuly the game is close enought to release now that we wont have to wait that much longer regardless.

And its been said a few times I think that the demo, if they do make one will be released after HL2 goes gold. Id still like to see some funny movies tho. :p

"We'll be announcing something about the benchmark in the upcoming weeks"

i wasnt using "" for fun, its what one of the valve ppl said, the full response is in the info from valve only thread.

:D nvm, mate

I quoted valve too, only that quote was way back from the release date being pushed back.

That was on the INA-Community forums for the UT2k3 demos, some really hilarious pictures in it, heh.

A demo is bad idea for Hl2 before release.

IMO.

Spam what spam?

Demo = Good if its just a show off of the engine capibilities

It isn't worth the risk. Demo before release = bad marketing.

Unless top ace companies know their game is going to be "ultimate badass pwnage"--they usually don't release demos until after release.

They shouldnt make a demo, and i highly doubt they will, Valve know what a good expect their HL2 gameplay is , they wnt want to show that to people b4 release imo

ut2003 = demo released Good
farcry = Bad demo release to many glitches

Just make sure its good

I'm warning you Six Three and Lucifer, stop the spam.

Demo = Bad if it means all the sweaty little 'hacker wannabes' can get their wallhacks and aimbots ready for when the real thing is released.

Sigged. :)

Does anyone think there will be aimbots or wallhacks right away?

Or in the near future...?

This sounds stupid... But how do they add these things to the game? How do they change the code?

They pretty much reverse engineer the game.. basically "hacking" the memory during play

Has to be a pretty pain-staking process

Thanks Suhzer, some people have way too much time on there hands, eh?

There will eventually be cheats for HL2. Spare me the OMG but Valve are 1337. Yes, yes they are. However, there are some really talented programmers on the cheat scene at the moment, and I know a couple of them. They are great at what they specialize in, cracking games. They spend most of their time doing it, because they actually love the challenge of it. Personally, I can't stand doing it, as I find doing reverse engineering and framework editing through windows to be boring.

I don't have doubts that Valve will update HL2 at a very very regular rate to prevent cheaters, but I do doubt that it will ever be cheat free. The only games that are almost cheat free are mmorpgs with server-side data, because of how ALL of the data is always streamed and changed on the fly through a network. Don't know many crackers out there anymore who even attempt it on mmropgs...except for small ones that don't have top corps backing them.

Valve can rewrite all they want, they can take 4 years developing a checks and balances netcode system, but it won't be perfect. Coders will find loopholes. That is how it is, and how it will be for quite some time. I expect the BIG cheats are going to be developed within video drivers. I used to half-run counterhack...and wrote a bunch of articles that coders can implement in their anti cheat software. Clienthooks, hard coded cheats, external and driver cheats can all be avoided but not without people working non stop to search/update anti cheat software. So I guess my point is that cheats suck, and that it takes a lot of talented people in a community to keep a game cheat free. UBISoft is the only company I have found to be on the right track...oh and microsoft with the X-Box.

I really shouldn't be calling anything yet, but in my opinion Valve will be at the peak of anti-cheat software with the release of HL2. We shall see, it will be interesting times. What I said above was just a hindsight of what could happen and does happen. I am sure Valve has some cards up their sleeve.

on the demo, i would say nah, for i'd rather have a benchmark to find out how well the game will run on my system.

on the cheats, there will probably pre integrated cheats in the game, like in the original for really crappy fps players

lol, about every barney in black mesa owes me a beer!! to you too, if you played hl of course
