If God has a set of morals that humans can't relate to, or has a great plan that nobody will ever know about, then how on Earth could I trust him?
Purely hypothetical: What if God were to suddenly condone rape? Yeah, yeah, the Lord works in mysterious ways. That's not going to stop me and the majority of this planet from being disgusted by the act of rape. God says rape is good, but my conscience and morals tell me that it's bad. I can't relate to God. I can't view him as benevolent and kind. Thus, I will reject him and his word, and he will have succeeded in trapping me into an eternity in Hell.
Why leave your clueless children to their own accord and then punish those for having morals that contradict your own? They don't know any better.
