Religios ppl in my biology class

Here, the biology teachers voluntarily tell us that evolution does not include "man from monkies" and that macroevolution is false.
Is that even legal? I dunno, America has many states with many different rules and regulations regarding evolution in schools.

of course, I argue this constantly, and I am often belittled by my peers for "beleiving in that shit"' At times I think I am the only sane person in my school, an island of reason in a sea of ignorance.

Even in english class, I was ridiculed out of the classroom for talking about the "controversy of evolution" in our discussion of "dissident philosophies" (it was what I had been randomly assigned)
Hopefully you can find some solace amongst these boards. If you're getting poor marks because your standing up for your beliefs you should consider taking the issue up with a higher authority.

If God exists, and is all powerful, everything everyone ever does is because of Him, thus everything is His fault.

Win!

You know how they put in Intelligent Design as an alternative theory to darwinism? And then Flying Spaghetti Monsterism came in as an alternative theory to Intelligent Design? My school actually teaches all three. It's great fun.

Intelligent Design is just an attempt by some to slip in creationism into science classes. Intelligent Design has no place in real science - there are no scientists out there with research grants busily working on the Intelligent Design theory hoping for the next big breakthrough. Its presentation like science is meant to confuse the layman into thinking it has scientific merit. Its existence and involvement in science classrooms is due to political/religious reasons. When discussing evolution in science I have no problem with talking about how religions view evolution and why since this allows students to make up their own minds - I just wish it didn't have to be under the guise of Intelligent Design.
Out of curiosity what does your teacher say about the flying spaghetti monster? It is a satirical poke at Intelligent Design.

They actually taught FSM? Goddamn, wish I went to that school.

No, its not legal to teach religious beliefs in school. It's not even very decent. But when has common decency prevented anyone from being jerks?

They teach you Flying Spaghetti Monsterism in school?

Wow :|

Less "Teach" than "Explains how it carefully satirises Intelligent Design and also pirates, look!"

But still funky. Also, our teacher can juggle. ^^

Religion is a great idea, theoretically. Like pure socialism.

So im going to this american school right with full of religios people. I come from Sweden where you get shot if you believe in god (not really but kinda). So i was suprised when everyone was serious about believing in god. First i thought it was a joke and laughed. However i respect them and dont disturb them in their...prayers right?

Anyway, so i had biology class today and my teacher started to talk about the subject about how old human life is (the very first human-like species). He said it was way way way back and said a very large number (dont remember what) and this one girl was like "was that before adam and eva". I was like :dozey: and the teacher was lke :borg: and told her that this is science class. After a quite agressive discussion between the students and the teacher it appeared to me that most of the student thought life began with Adam and Eva. My teacher accept their viewpoints but was still a bit irretated because it disturbed the teaching he gave, he cant say anything without someone correcting him according to the bible. We are reading a science book not the ****ing bible ppl!!!

Im like the only one in the class that doesnt believe (and the teacher) so i get kinda favoratism :smoking: .

Is it like this in all american schools? Do you all SERIOUSLY believe in god and that shit that much?

One tip, dont go to sweden...:imu:

i too think it's rediculous. i mean, it can be proved that it would be impossible for two people to father a whole race, the gene pool would be too small and inbred. we would have died within the first few generations.

also, i can imagine how frustrating it would be trying to teach science to religious people.

Nope. Because if an idea fails to factor in even the most basic characteristics of man, then it's a terrible idea. Communism isn't great in theory, it's horrible, like organized religion.

Religion would of have been a good idea to use in the past, when science wasn't so prelevant, and many questions weren't answered.

I think of Religion as an excuse for answering those questions without super-efficient evidence, nothing more.
