I remember on the half-life.net forums people were saying that the game wasn't actually 3d. People would point to pictures of the giant tentacle alien that could hear sounds and say it wasn't actually a 3d model, just a place holder and that the game wasnt actually done (like a week before it came out). Reminds alot of the situation now.

Was anyone else around back then?

Somehow i missed all mention of half-life before it was released, which was actually a good thing because when i first saw the game my jaw droped.

Maybe i should have gone into hiding when hl2 was released so the same thing happened oO waiting is hard when your bored :(

Yeah, I sure do.

I recently (in the last few minutes) made a post about some archived Half-Life News and it was quickly locked due to some potential massive crazy posting.

Doesn't anyone appreciate any history?

Those old stories should remind everyone that Valve can delay games, and they can also announce "Gone Gold".

I remember when Half-life was coming out, but I don't remember so many crazy arguements and over-the-top "If it doesn't come out on the 30th I'll die" comments.

It wasn't relevant to Half-Life 2 in any way, and you didn't really strongly signify that it was a piece of history, some people actually thought that you thought it was to do with Half-Life 2, not the original. It would have gotten out of hand, so I closed. Simple as that.

Yeah right, their were plenty of those nutcases back then.

I have a question is halflife2.net made by the same people as the old half-life.net or are they completely unrelated?

I didn't even hear about Half-Life until after it was released.

Then I played it and was very impressed.

Bouche, yeah, Valve decided to scrap nearly all of Half-Life's content and start again rather than rushing it out for it's original 1997 release.

It took a year before they had remade everything, but they expected to have it done in April at first.

Same here. I saw a preview in a magazine and thought it was cool, but kinda forgot about it quickly.
Then, about two years later I saw it in a store and was like: "Oh, so it's game of the year now. Good for it." :)
