Remember the Blizzard of 2010?

I don't mind the snow. Still walk the mile to school every day, except after a night of "freezing rain" a couple of weeks back. Slippery sidewalks of death. And I've noticed people have been much better about shoveling sidewalks this year. Last year we got a foot (or two?) of snow, and apparently everyone decided to say "screw it" and be lazy.

I like chips and biscuits.

Holy damn, how cold is that exactly?

-27C ~ -33C in some areas, like the DMZ and the mountainous provinces (which are actually all of them) near it.

-18C in Seoul, where I live right now.

Of course, those are the coldest points from a couple of weeks before, it's been getting a bit warmer, around -12C on average.

Don't worry. Non-Americans outnumber the Americans on this board.

I'm not one of them though SO GO AHEAD AND CRY WHILE YOU EAT YOUR CRISPS AND YOUR BISCUITS!

LOLOLOL The best thing about this is I'm actually eating biscuits right now. KitKat.

Study in Tromsø so there's 79cm of snow outside right now, theres been storms, avalanches and polar nights. Luckily it hasn't been that cold though.

Got stuck driving home from work in DC to Silver Spring, MD for 4 hours. The trip is usually 20-30 minutes normally. Got my car stuck in the snow several times, it's one of the most miserable drives I've ever taken. There were so many abandoned cars along the way, the roads were just cluttered with stuck cars.

I had to drive just 15 minutes longer than usual from Baltimore to Rockville. Usually a 50 minute trip. Roads were mostly clear with the exception of a couple spots. Snow and car don't mix.

A Cemetery near here. Going to be getting probably another foot on top of it this week.

It's supposed to snow/ice real bad tomorrow. I have a paid day off since our offices are closed for tomorrow due to it, even if things don't turn out as severe as expected.

That snow looks amazing Krynn... well, not the fact that it's on a cemetary, but still. I love snow.

I hate it. I had to go out today to shovel in preparation for having to shovel tomorrow and wednesday. I had to cut into the huge 5 foot tall snowbanks at the end of our driveway to make room for our cars to get out with the snow coming tomorrow. The shits so ****ing heavy now since its weighed down with the water of the snow that melted and turned into ice inside the snow below it. But now we're supposed to get 8-12 inches more snow tomorrow with the storm ending on Wednesday with freezing rain and hail. God. F*cking. Damn. It sucks because we can't see shit when we're driving. When you're at an intersection you can't see if cars are coming until you're halfway in their lane already. Its so ****ing dangerous. Plus I live next to an elementary school and a bus stop for middle schoolers, and the snow banks are so high that even when they're standing they're completely obscured, so I'm probably going to run over a little child when trying to back out my car anytime between 3:30 and 5:00. I probably won't even notice because theres huge ice blocks from melting snow that freezes overnight, making me having to hit the gas to charge over the lumps of it at the end of our driveway. So if I do run over a little kid I might think it was ice and just keep going.

F*ck 'em, they should't be walking in these conditions anyways. That goes for these moron joggers and bicyclers still out running in streets where theres already no room for cars. God damn idiots. As if the idiot drivers here would drive slow enough to not smash into them when coming around a bend. EVERYBODY IS A GOD DAMN IDIOT.

I thought I would be happy to be returning home after living in the south for 4 years, but f*ck me ,this winter has changed my mind. I want to go live with the rednecks again.

If you paid me, I'd come shovel your snow!

So, just got word that we are going to be in a Blizzard Warning tomorrow....up to 18 inches. That is kind of weird for southwestern Missouri.

Ha. Snow. The very thought of it is incomprehensible down here. The only form of precipitation we're going to get tomorrow is rain, which might freeze into ice if the temperature is low enough.

By the way Virus, that was pretty good.

Supposed to get a really bad blizzard tomorrow. I intentionally took a lot of online classes so I wouldn't have to drive a lot in the snow this winter.

I guess everyplace is getting hit tomorrow. Wintry mix for us.

Sucks for me, because I'm on call for my job this week, and since I work with school districts, they are all going to be calling me from 4 - 7 AM with their emergency questions.

Blizzard Warning here. I guess Chicago is supposed to be hit very badly tomorrow. A few college's around Illinois have already canceled classes tomorrow (and tentatively Wednesday).. 18-24 inches expected with 40-60 mph winds. That's not tremendously a lot, but definitely enough to **** up the next two days for a city with a 3,000,000 headcount.

Two reasons why I'll still have class:
1. I have an exam tomorrow and my teacher is a prick. Even Armageddon wouldn't make this guy reschedule an exam. That's pretty typical though. Ultimately, I guess it's up the university president to decide to cancel all classes. Until then, I have an exam to cram for..
2. Chicago has a plow force as impenetrable as the U.S. 2nd Armored division. The roads will likely still be shit and accidents will be abundant, but that doesn't mean the conditions will be bad enough to deter city-students from reaching class. At least, that's what all my professors have announced today. Thing is, I take public transportation to class (bus). I'm going to have to leave super early for everything tomorrow (goddamn't).

I am not looking forward to the next few days...

Looks like Pittsburgh is only in for "wintry mix" and also "rain/snow/wind." Which probably means the sidewalks will be all iced-up and slippery again. Sucks. They don't cancel school for that.

Back in Texas, if there was half a centimeter of snow, they'd cancel classes for 2-3 days. Those were good times.

Really? That's all they seem to like canceling college for here (well, freezing rain).

Really? That's all they seem to like canceling college for here (well, freezing rain).

Hmm, we had freezing rain a couple of weeks ago --enough to get on the news in Houston-- but no classes canceled.

But we did get classes canceled during snowmaggedon last year -- only because the city didn't clear all the roads, and essentially demanded that our university shut down.

If it were up to the school, they probably wouldn't cancel classes for anything, ever. We don't even get Martin Luther King Day off, wtf. I should've gone to a public university.

We're even getting hit here in New Mexico. Had one of the first 2 storms come in yesterday, temperatures were 50F on Sunday, 28F yesterday, and 18F right now. THe second storm coming in later today is supposed to be much worse. Hoping I get to take the day off tomorrow.

This is what it looks like at work, might not seem like much to most people here but we aren't used to seeing roads totally frozen over like this. Driving was a pain in the ass.

We actually got some snow. Started around midnight and continued throughout the morning. According to the news, we have about four inches of it. It's 17F right now, but it feels like -1F with the wind. We're going to have to enjoy this horrible weather until Friday, when it's supposedly supposed to go up to 40F.

Looks like we got very little of anything. Or will be getting jack for most of today.

It's snowing so hard here. Feels like it's already a foot deep. Couldn't get to work, either! *Darn*

If I'm not riding a snowmobile on groomed trails or snowboarding down a mountain on groomed trails than I ****ing hate snow. It's cute for 5 minutes, then you realize you need to shovel this shit over and over and over. Then there's the inevitable struggle to get my car out of my spot and shovel some more. But you're not done yet because you need to be plowed so now you have the delightful experience of paying a dude with a shitty plow to push snow around your yard. Walking somewhere? Not without balls of snow creeping up your legs and soaking your socks. And after all that it just happens again. It's bullshit.

It also gives every teenager with a license an excuse to find the nearest parking lot and spin around like an asshole. (I do this actually, it's fun) Then there's the fact that car accidents increase 10 fold, parking spaces in the city are gone, and lastly (and this happened today) I began to clear my sinuses and spit that shit out when I discover my god damn windows are frozen shut, so I just sit there driving down the road contemplating an early lunch.

Ya, snow is terrible....it got me out of work today tho :D
*roommates car, and if his FWD can't make it, no way I can*

Classes cancelled, what the shit are you rambling about? It once came 60 cm of snow overnight when I was a kid, and they never even thought of closing down the school. Took me 90 minutes to walk the two kilometres to school. Silly yanks.

classes are cancelled on snow days because of transportation. the bus companys wont operate after a certain minimum snow fall has been reached

lol'd

Yeah, schools close depending on the transportation conditions. A lot of things factor in to the decision, not just how much snow is falling. Things like how early the plows started clearing roads, or how many plows are out there to re-plow roads once snow has re-accumulated after the initial plowing. Plus how many kids there are that will need to be given rides, thus increasing traffic. How many hills there are. For instance, in just a few towns over theres one area whose schools close with pretty much every storm, while here theres very few storms that shut us down. Its because their entire area is hilly terrain. A bus simply cannot stop, and will slide right on through intersections. Same with cars or any vehicle. Even if you have students just walk in, other cars on the road have slid right up on the sidewalks and killed kids before. They're simply not going to take chances that other areas can risk due to having flat land.

This is just the start of our problems for the next two days.

Also, it becomes a huge liability for the school if an accident were to occur on campus. Due to the school's ignorance of not cancelling classes during an actual (well, relative) blizzard, media attention would be absolutely horrid towards the school if some student were to get injured by some car accident, bus accident, etc. whilst on campus when this could have been prevented by cancellation.

Edit: Didn't catch Krynn's post. Totally agree with him.

As of now, Loyola University, Depaul University, Columbia, and Roosevelt have cancelled class for the rest of the day and tomorrow. My apartment building has shut down it's leasing office for the remainder of the afternoon and tomorrow. (<- That's very surprising because January's rent is due today and tomorrow!). The city-road watch Blackhawks events have been canceled. My ****ing 7/11 has shut it's doors for the day. All with only an inch on the ground so far. I guess it's really supposed to get that bad tonight.

But bar specials are THROUGH the roof! I have another class at 2:00pm, but I'm hoping to get one of those SMS emergency texts from UIC indicating classes have been cancelled. If so, you'll be able to find me at the bars tonight.

Good luck to all of those stranded and what-not.

I feel bad for the deer in the forest behind my house. They must be pissed the **** off. The babies can't even keep their heads above the snow line, how the hell does that work?

It's snowing so hard here. Feels like it's already a foot deep. Couldn't get to work, either! *Darn*

Yep, we're having tomorrow off too. If this keeps up, as in the ice won't melt, I might have a full paid three day week off.

Well, that was quick. My classes are now cancelled through 10:00am Thursday. This has to be a first in recent decades for this school due to weather.

It's honestly not too bad yet, but I shot a video for reference on the way over to 7/11 for refreshments in light of the cancellations.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhHmhzLW4V4Here's a image I shot from, roughly, about a block away looking the same direction during a clear, summer day.

THIS F*CKING SHIT. FOUR AND A HALF GOD DAMN HOURS. Four and a half hours of shoveling, with TWO people doing it. For a little bit of sidewalk and the driveway. It was ****ing Ice on top, then snow, then ice on bottom. The shit is so god damn heavy, my arms feel like Jello. Plus theres no place to put it anymore. We have to whip the shovel with like 10 pounds of snow, ice and slush as hard as we could to toss it over the seven foot snow banks on the sides of our sidewalk and driveway, OR walk it across the street and throw it over the 4 foot snow bank over there. FOR EVERY SCOOP. AND THERE WERE HUNDREDS OF SCOOPS. ****ING SCOOPS. And theres still a quarter inch glaze of ice on the entire sidewalk and on the steps to our house. Its ****ing solid as a mother ****. I was hitting it with a god damn sledge hammer and stabbing it with a metal shovel, and only managed to clear one step and give my hands a ton of blisters from the shock of each hit.

I. HATE. THIS. BULLSHIT.

All day yesterday all the reports were how much snow we were going to get overnight. Everyone was prepared for it, they even cancelled the schools here. So I was sure I would get to stay home. Temperatures dropped down to below 0 degrees but not a ****ing inch of snow. So I got to work today with the added bonus of having my fingers turn purple from try to scrape off my car in the morning.

Looks like chicago got it easy... it's snowing ping-pong balls here in STL still, on top of ice, and re-freezing snow every half inch it snows, because the sun melts it, then passes behind a cloud, then it turns into ice. Winter sucks.

And again no work for me tomorrow. That's a full three day work week for me that this storm has been off.

It's actually pissing me off quite honestly. I've been wanting to go to the gym these past couple days and every day I cannot get out on the road to do that it's pissing me off.
